I don't know what I will personally do. Right now I stopped using the feature because it's broken.
I am aware I can migrate everything to another account etc etc.
That might mean solving the problem for good or just for another couple of weeks, then having MS surprise us with the entire removal because the feature wasn't "being used anymore" (because they broke it).
I am tired of the enshitification we see all around. Streaming services did it, credit cards did it, air companies, even my Google Home devices keep getting dumber and dumber, showing me search results to queries it would know how to answer before (how long until sunset, the humidity level, the thermic sensation, my next appointments, converting currency and measurement units etc).
To me, this is intentional. They know it's happening. They don't want to fix it. Even if they do, they'll take as long as possible to be sure any person that would upgrade to regain service does it.
I am very weary on spending another week moving files around to have everything on the same side of the fence only to be surprised later with one of my accounts being migrated to v1. I know it should be unlikely, but who guarantees that? There's no official document saying the migration is only happening in one direction.
When they care they come to these topics and they clarify things very well, apologize for the inconvenience and give users a timeline to solve the problem.
Right now not even their support has access to any tool to help us out. You can ask them politely, you can cry, you can bargain, nothing will work because they're powerless and surely more frustrated than us, since they likely hear the same complaints multiple times a day, everyday, but they're required by their employers to act as if they "never heard of it" and gaslight us to death.
I was taking the pain of having File Explorer sluggish because, in return, I had a cloud storage that was supposed to be useful and reliable. I used to tell everybody I knew to use their service, I put my entire family on my account to use it. I have my entire life there, and everything somehow linked to it, from my scanners to my phone, my main computer and secondary ones. I relied on them to keep everything synchronized for years. It was sluggish but it worked. I'd sometimes wait for hours to have it process a couple hundred MB but it was like using a dishwasher, it might take three hours to do your dishes but it's doing it, not myself.
I don't feel ashamed for using their service as a tool, and for relying on it.
Don't you dare feeling guilty as well. We're the victims here, Microsoft is supposed to be a reliable and honest tech giant.
I wish you didn't lose data. Try your best to adjust your routines or find an alternative that's cheap and reliable and share it with us. 🌷
Remember they were the ones telling us to do exactly what we did (sharing within our own accounts / family / friends with writing permissions to go above 1 TB) when we wanted to purchase additional storage and they would not allow us to.
