Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

These broke for one of two reasons to share was between family or home OneDrive and business 365 SharePoint OneDrive it was announced this would happen to both sides.

The second reason is the sharing computer changed the root folder to view only this automatically changes the shortcut to a web link. At this point you have to remove all permissions to this folder and it's contents and make sure that it does not show up as a share in the receiving online OneDrive shared folder. At this point you can now remove the folder from the OneDrive on the sending computer. Then create a new folder in the OneDrive with read write permissions to the other user I do recommend rebooting at this time then the receiving computer should be able to see this in the shared folder click the settings to make the drive viewable local it will not show up till you reboot the computer do not do it more than once or it will not work when you reboot the computer you will see the folder through File Explorer on the new on the receiving computer. Once this is confirmed working the contents of the folder can be moved into the new folder and it can take up the 24 hours for everything will show up on the receiving computers both computers need to be set to stay awake and not go to sleep till this is completed.

I fix this all the time for people it works every time when it's done correctly one caveat both computers OS must be fully up to date and Office 365 must be fully up to date if this is not done it is possible to have issues and after your last update you do want to reboot the computer before you start making these changes for the one drive between the two that believe there's Nine security updates they have to be deployed correctly for everything the work correctly part of my windows part of my office so they must both be up to date an office no longer updates in the Windows updates you need to open up word or Excel click on account when you click file and you'll see a button to update office keep pressing that and rebooting with each update till it's fully updated depending on the last time you did this you could have 10 or 15 versions you have to work through get it fully up to date you want both Microsoft Office and your windows version saying that you have all updates and you want to make sure on Windows updates that you click on advance and turn on updates for additional components also these are required

Sorry - but its not true. We use a shared Family plan for myself and one other employee. Other employees have their own plan have not had this problem. Problem first started in June 2024 in the shared Family account. Took a weekend to convert everything to a new email address in October 2024. Last week the new address converted to the same problem. So this is not only between Business and personal.

Sounds like you did not do the necessary cleanup before you did it; you must remove the permissions from the folder that is showing up like a shortcut, then move the folder out of the One Drive

You must wait until the shared disappears from the online OneDrive shared folder on the receiving computer. That computer needs to reboot. It would not hurt to reboot yours, either. Now, you can create the folder with read-write shares when the other person sees it in the shared folder. They need to click on the download folder only once time reboot, and it should show up at that point once it is in the correct place on the new computer; you can move the internal files into that folder with the caveat all folders have to have read-write permissions so if you need subfolders in there you will need to create them with read-write don't do another share create them with read correct and then place the files in place they can be read right or read-only and will be available on the other computer at this point it can take up the 24 hours for these folders to sync correctly after that they should show changes within 10 minutes of a change

Hi, no, i mean the OneDrive service on the Web, something on the backend of OneDrive is messed up.

Not the store app - as you say it's useless 😉

I've tried everything with no success - moving to other cloud is a no go right now - we also use and need the Office Apps...

You can easily see if the shared folders are working, because the folders size shows on OneDrive Web. If it's a shortcut you won't see the folders size.

However I noticed something on OneDrive Web (i'm using portuguese language so i will try to translate the buttons):

Shared folders working: The main account shares folders for 2 other accounts and has "Add new" button and "Search" on options. The two accounts that receive the shared folders have "Create or upload" button on one account and "New and upload" button on other account and both accounts have "Search" on options.

Shared folders NOT working: The main account that shares folders for several accounts has "New and upload" button and "Search" on options. One of the accounts that receive the shared folders have "Add new" button but NO "Search" on options. Other account has "Create or upload" button but NO "Search" on options.

The other accounts that shared folders are working have different buttons like "Add new", "Create or upload" or "New and upload", and they ALL HAVE "Search" on options!!

I've seen some pictures stating that having "Search" on options is the OLD version, but maybe it's the other way, and having "search" on options is the NEW version?

So i think the buttons don't mean much - whats important for the shared folders to work is having the "Search" on options of OneDrive Web.

Can someone check and test this?

Although it doesn't mean much, maybe someone watching the forum can report this to Microsoft...
