Onedrive's downloading speed is tremendously slow

Hi everyone,

I'm confused by the fact of Onedrive's downloading speed to be very slow. I'm trying to download my video file from Onedrive and the speed is 1 MB/s only, having internet channel speed 100 mbps. Download speed from competitor's servers (Mega.nz, FREE Plan) is 10 MB/s, which utilizes my whole channel. The funny thing is that the upload speed was 10 MB/s to Onedrive's servers, but the download speed is only 1 MB/s.

I've removed any limits on download speed in Onedrive app, updated the app, changed TCP congestion protocol to BBR, but the result is the same.

Attaching here the pictures:

I'm quite aware of other complaints on Onedrive's download speed, but still hope for a resolution. I've sent my question to Onedrive's tech team, but here I'm posting to:

  1. Get more ideas on how to solve this issue
  2. Attract more attention to the problem

I can't believe the gall of this company. The only responses are just gaslighting BS. I am so glad that I didn't buy into Microsoft stock. Nobody that works on a computer would continue to use OneDrive, especially if they value their time. Especially since every other cloud service works flawlessly. I don't even notice when Google Drive syncs 30gbs, but one file takes ten minutes to open with One Drive.

FIX YOUR PROGRAM. Provide additionally bandwidth.

This scares me. Now, I fear a future where MacOS is my only choice due to stupid management issues like this ruining your company. I would like to take pride in my choice of OS, like "Mac people" do. Microsoft users are do not love Microsoft they are not "Microsoft People". Microsoft should want PC people to refer to the "Microsoft Master Race" yet they have pride in the PC DESPITE you. Wake up. Ubuntu will replace you once one day once they perfect compatibility issues in their free time.

So I'm not the only one with this issue.

I recently changed my plan from 1TB to 100GB, with the intention to back up my kids' videos in a portable SDD.

Average speed is 500KB/s, which is ridiculous.

So I borrow a laptop, leave it on charging at the company for serveral days, get my data and will never subscribe for 1TB again

I have the same issue. And, the response from Microsoft might as well have said, it's not their problem. My hunch is they intentionally slow download speeds, so copying and removing your content is substantially more inconvenient for the user, sustainably lowering their cancelation rate. I mean, it is the same reason you can't click 1 button to select everything and then select download, and you have to outsmart the system or individually select every item separately. While, these tactics are rather shady and distasteful, it is their platform so they can make it a slow as they want to. If I am wrong, I hope someone from mircosoft can offer a better explanation. My speed tests say i can download 100x - 200x faster than what onedrive is currently downloading at 1-2mbps.

The conspiracy theory doesn't make you look smart. It is complete and utter nonsense to think MS is throttling download speed to prevent people from cancelling their subscription.

I'm literally in the process of moving all my OneDrive data to my $5/mo 1TB seedbox in Netherlands because I've realized it has NextCloud support with single click installation & does about 5x the speeds...

Take a moment to think on that REALLY HARD Microsoft...

silence would be preferable over this response. completely missed the point. i cancelled my 365 sub because onedrive is garbage and is either incompetently designed compared to other hosts or is designed in such a way to make moving files in and out of the environment as difficult as possible because some MBA thought it would be a cost saving move.
