High CPU Usage on macOS Catalina.... This is very annoying!

Hey guys,

I've been feeling very frustrated about OneDrive:

Ever since I've switched to Catalina on my MBP 15", OneDrive keeps spinning up a bunch of processes called "OneDrive Finder Integration", about 5-6 of them and then Finder goes over 130% along with another system-level process. Needless to say, this kicks up the fans to the full speed and, if running on battery, chews up through so much of the battery. The only other way around this is to pause the app which defeats the whole point of having a "cloud" backup. I've looked around, run a bunch of scripts suggested, uninstalled, reset and then reinstalled the app with no success. Can someone help me with this?

BTW, why can't I check my Preferences (where the version number is accessible) when OneDrive is paused?!!! this is just poor planning as far as I'm concerned!

Hi everyone. I came across this thread searching for a solution to the same problem.

Brief summary of my case: MacBook Pro 15" 2014; long time OneDrive user without any problems (actually, a big fan, once I got over the trauma of renaming all my files to avoid the space, " ", at the end of filenames); previous OS was Sierra; updated OS to Catalina and the fan and battery-life went into meltdown. Similar numbers in the activity monitor as reported by the OP.

After reading some of the comments, turned off the 'Files On-Demand" setting in preferences, and low and behold the fan has taken a Valium and tranquility reigns again. I don't remember having this stupid feature under Sierra and I certainly don't need it. Only half hour into the new setting, so will report back if any of this changes.

TLDR: solution for me was to disable 'Files On-Demand' under preferences.

I disabled Finder extension in Preferences, and now OneDrive and distnoted are eating up over 200% CPU collectively. Ugh! I'll admit, it doesn't last as long as the issue with Finder before I disabled the Finder Integration extension, but still irritating (I hate the sound of those fans revving up and the heat coming from between my keyboard and screen on my Macbook!).

I'll limp along until I switch to DropBox or another service.

I hate to say this but it's still not fixed in 20.124.0621.0006.  It's better though, but definitely not fixed.

I agree, companies rely way too much on customers to do their work for them in troubleshooting.

From what I've read on here, I'll try disabling the Finder Extension. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just limp along until Microsoft decides this is worth fixing, or switch to another cloud drive company.

exactly, i've given up on OneDrive for now.
