Insert Comment option is missing from right-click menu

I am using Excel 2016 on Windows 10. Today, the "Insert comment" option disappeared from the right-click pop-up context menu. When I right-click on a cell with no comment, there is no option to add one. If I right-click on a cell with a comment, I can edit or delete the comment. On the Insert tab of the ribbon, the Comments section is grayed out. This problem is affecting all spreadsheets that I have tried.

I googled the problem and tried every solution offered but none of them worked. How can I add comments to cells again?

    Hi!

    I just have the same issue today... However, I just noticed that there was this [Group] just after the file name (on top of the file that shows the file name that you are working at) and it means that you selected more than 1 tab on that worksheet. Not sure how did it happen (maybe by accident) and it was saved just liked that without me noticing it. Not sure if it is the same issue with you but you might want to check if that is the case and just ungroup those tabs

    Same to me. Right click is not working. Shift + F2 allows to add a comment but right click menu and comment is missing

    The exact same thing also happened to me. In Excel file, from right click on cell, Insert Comment feature from the context menu has been disappeared. This been happened since last 4 days. There is no change to my computer. My issue is same as original poster .

    I've had exactly the same issue this morning.  Surely Microsoft have to respond again when it's affecting so many people?  I know - I'm just a hopeless romantic.....

    Today the problem is gone. I have not rebooted my computer or changed anything. My computer was in Sleep mode overnight. I have no idea why yesterday I could not insert a comment and today I can. A day has simply passed.

    I am using Microsoft Office Home and Student 2016

    Version 1902 Build 11328.20146 Click-to-Run
