All my files are saved on OneDrive folder (which is synced). When I open a word file from my OneDrive folder, the option to AutoSave is disabled and I can see a msg "Saved on your Mac". How is that, if it is on Onedrive and syncing ??? I have, then, to save a new copy, select Save Online, chose the SAME FOLDER, chose another name, and then, the Autosave option is enabled. Does anyone know how to solve it?

I found the autosave function of my office 365 works again today.
I did nothing except keeping my office 365 up to date in "insider slow" channel.
mac OS: 10.15.1
onedrive: 19.222.1110.0004(Standalone)
office 365: 16.33(19120401)
I have tried everything they recommended, but nothing worked. Last week I even reset my Macbook to the factory settings and installed everything from scratch. Nothing worked.
I have both OneDrive installed (Personal and Business), the behaviour is exactly the same. Business work perfectly, but the personal doesn’t work.
If the issue was from Apple neither version would be working. The problem is with the Personal Version.

Really sorry to hear this issue is still bothering you, have you tried the new user profile method I mentioned previously? Please check if it's working on your side.

Is this the last comment from Microsoft on this? The issue is clearly still there and no response - any offers to refund subscription to those affected until there is a solution - as a minimum...?
I have just updated my Mac, same OS and same versions of excel / word / one drive as before, but I did a clean install. So opening from finder / recent docs always autosave NOT on from my personal one drive. Open from file menu open and autosave is on. My OneDrive for Business does NOT have this issue and always opens in autosave on mode.
Can anyone explain this? Does this help to resolve the issue Microsoft?

Personal experience:
Problem: Autosave is "Off" if a file is opened from Finder. Autosave is "On" if a file is opened from the file menu in Excel/Word/Powerpoint.
Autosave Working: Late 2015 iMac running macOS Catalina (10.15.4), Office apps from office.com (16.36), and OneDrive v 19.232.1124.0012 (standalone).
Autosave NOT Working: 2020 Macbook Air, identical software. And yes, all the Office autosave, macOS extensions and full disk access boxes are checked.
Hopefully the team can get this figured out for good. I suppose it's also possible Apple keeps patching whatever method they're using to send Finder "meta-data" from OneDrive to the Office apps.
