I agree with Gilles. A better analogy: you can hunt with a rifle or a bow and arrow. Both will kill prey effectively but not in the same manner. I will not upgrade past Mojave because the Office 2011 works fine. I have seen Office 369, it sucks. Windows 7 looks better and smarter than the current version. Unfortunately, in the software business, companies have to regress the product to continue making money.
As an old guy who used AmiPro and Word Perfect (all put out of business by Microsoft), you use what you can until you cannot anymore. I will eventually have to buy Office 369, when the Mac that I have malfunctions or dies. We can gripe and cry all we want but "corporate's gonna do what corporates gonna do!!!" My 2 Cents added to the pile. Logknow.
