I purchased Microsoft Office 2011 along with the purchase of my MacBook. I did an upgrade yesterday only to find that Office 2011 will only run on 32 bit. The upgrade now requires Microsoft Office to run on 64bit. I read in many places that Microsoft has no intentions of supporting this upgrade so therefore, I can no longer safely use this software, that I purchased, on my mac. Microsoft is forcing me to purchase something I have already purchased earlier. I do not care if there are newer versions of Microsoft Office. I purchased Office 2011 and Microsoft should still honor that purchase by providing the 64bit upgrade. I contacted support thru their chat box and was only directed to this site where I can look up or post my own questions. Really great customer support Microsoft! Thank-you! NOT. I wish to have a refund or a product key to another Microsoft Office that will run on Mac at 64bit. I'll be holding my breath awaiting even more outstanding customer service.

Office 2019 requires Mac OS 10.12.1 or newer. If you have that, you're good to go.
I have tried several times in vain. The system not even recognized the ID of my 2011 package.

Excel 2019 is "Sandboxed" meaning that it adheres to Apple's security guidelines. Personally, I see no advantages to sandboxing, but Apple and Microsoft do. Sandboxing breaks a lot of stuff. One app can no longer control the OS or other apps as easily. There's lots of "Grant Permission" dialogs thrown by Mac OS when your app tries to open or save files. You can't do anything about this. I think the biggest benefit to Apple regarding sandboxing is that it breaks Microsoft Office.

In terms of the feature set, very few features were lost from 2011 to 2016 to 2019. There are many new features that you can take advantage of programmatically. In this regard, your code will run into almost no complications. If you run into sandboxing troubles, see Ron's page for advice.

What is the status of Excel 2019 for Mac? Has it been released? Do applications developed with Excel 2016 run the same in 2019? I don't want to upgrade my application to function properly within 2016, only to find it will need additional or re-modification for 2019. My thought is to go directly to 2019, but generally, I don't upgrade to the newest version right away -- I prefer to give it time to stabilize before I jump in.
