Office 365 cloud features do not work when using a privacy VPN

When I have a privacy VPN active (such as Private Internet Access - PIA) I can't access the cloud features on Office 365 (such as online templates, OneNote sync to the cloud, Excel or Word saving to OneDrive directly, etc). I have tried 3 different VPN solutions: PIA, NordVPN and VPNArea and they all exhibit the same issue. Is there a way to solve this or to tell Office to bypass the VPN?

    G'day Stephen,

    I just used Google's DNS servers.  8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

I've noticed it doesn't always work putting them in NordVPN's app but it seems to consistently work (so far anyway), adding them to network settings.

    cheers

    Paul

Thanks.  I had exactly the same problem.  Changing mtu (and other workarounds mentioned here) didn't work for me, however changing DNS did.  Changing it in network settings worked and also in NordVPN's "advanced settings".  In the end I left the network settings as they were originally and just use the feature in NordVPN's Windows app.

I tried that fix, it works intermittently. I still have to disconnect the VPN  to make sure my Office files backup every now and them.

I lost 4 hours of work because I didn't see that Auto backup wasn't working.

    Hi

In the NordVPN application you must disable "Cyversec" and then, in the "Advanced Setting" change UDP protocol to TCP.

    This worked for me.

Sudetta, I had the same problem as you & your fix seems to work for me as well. Thanks for sharing it.

It's a shame that MS can't fix these issues, so that NordVPN does not have to have its settings tweaked.
