Hyperlink insert crashes Office 2016 & Windows 10 Creators Update

Hi,

After a lot of searching, I still cannot explain why all office software crashes when trying to insert a hyperlink when latest creators beta is installed (15060).

The crashes all relate to the same DLL ucrtbase.dll.

As soon as I rollback to actual windows version 14393.953 the issue is non existent.

Thanks for your input

But I use the god-mode all the time!  Windows 10/Office 365 is so incredibly buggy, that god-mode makes it easy to use the available tools there.  Why doesn't windows do that naturally, anyway?

I was unable to send an invoice today, thanks to Excel not working its hyperlinks, perhaps Excel's just atheistic?

Fix it, Microsoft.  Please.  NOW!

Hi,

Just put the God mode fille in a seperate folder rather than leaving it in your docs folder. Then you can use your hyperlinks in Excel.

I can't figure the logic, but the reality is, deleting the God Mode folder from My Documents fixes this crash.

    I'm running Office 2016 (365) on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709).

I used to have God Mode on my desktop, but I found the folder in the default "My Documents" folder. It was identified with the same icon as Control Panel and no name.

    Hi EJToll,

You don't have to delete it. Just put it in a folder. By default it becomes the first item searched when you want to add a hyperlink in a document.

This problem only showed up with the creator's update. I don't know what MS changed, but they won't fix it and didn't admit anything about it.

    Zardoc = Genius!!

I had a similar problem where I was attempting to modify a hyperlink and Word 2016 crashed (after the Creators Update). I had placed my document on the Desktop (as my work area) and of course my GodMode icon was also on the Desktop!

Taking Zardoc's lead, I moved my document to the Documents folder and the problem disappeared and I was able to update the hyperlinks successfully.

My assessment is that Word will crash any time you attempt to add or modify (or even delete?) a hyperlink in a document which resides in the same folder as the GodMode icon.

I cannot even begin to understand how a bug like this can occur but at least there's a workaround until Microsoft acknowledge their mistake and fix it!!

Thanks Zardoc for working this out

UPDATE: I came across KB4011093 (today, 26 August 2017) which seems to be fixing a very similar problem. I installed it as the earlier disruptive update had been installed on my machine. Sadly, KB4011093 DOES NOT resolve this problem.

Zardoc - Thanks. I moved the God Mode and it works like as charm. A simple fix with 3 minutes to read your post and one minute to move the file.....unfortunately I spent the better part of 3 days with two level 1s, two level 2s and a level 3 that was a total prima donna.....all of them did the same things every time even though I stressed it would not work. The Level 3 wanted to remove and completely reinstall Windows - requiring a total reload of all my other software and files (I an a user and not a skilled IT professional like you guys) and I told him NO and refused to deal with him or anyone else from MS for that matter. Figured a smart person somewhere would eventually figure it out.

I Hope you share this with their "experts" as MS has become so large they cannot stoop to deal with the problems of regular guys like me.
