Today I’m pleased to announce the release of Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac.

Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac enables you do your best work – anywhere, anytime and with anyone. New, modern versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote have the familiar look and feel of Office, and are thoughtfully designed for Mac. You’ll quickly produce quality documents using new online templates, the Insights pane, and recommended charts. You’ll have access to your docs in the cloud whenever you need them. No more sending documents back and forth in email: it’s easy to share your work and have others review it, since several people can edit the same document simultaneously.

What are the system requirements?

Your Mac device needs to be on OS X 10.10 Yosemite or above.

How do I get Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac?

Office 365 subscribers can get Office 2016 for Mac fromOffice.com/myaccount.  If you don’t have an Office 365 subscription you can purchase from Office.com.

How should I update the Preview build to the Release build?

The update will be available shortly.  You can install the update by going to Help > Check for Updates. Otherwise, the Microsoft Auto-Update Tool will inform you sometime today or tomorrow that an update is available.

    Is something supposed to open after Installer.app finishes the install? No "Setup Assistant" opens after I close the Installer, like has happened in previous versions of Office:Mac and Office for Windows.

    I've been using the Preview for months, with few major bugs. After installing the Final, I'm unable to open Word documents by double-clicking them (Word opens, nothing happens, then the app and MERS hang). Or, Word will open them in an (unlabeled) read-only mode. This happens with files stored on my Desktop and in my local Dropbox folder, regardless of whether the Dropbox service is running.

    I've installed and reinstalled a total of 4 times, including going back to download a different copy of the installer. No change.

    I was really enjoying the 2016 Preview, and kudos to Microsoft for making the Mac version so great! But, I really need to be able to actually use the Final version, which includes opening, editing, and saving documents.

    I agree with the previous postings - Office 2016 is not ready for release on the Mac.

    Several issues have already been mentioned, but professionals who rely on Word for business purposes should definitely NOT upgrade at this time. One major issue is that the ribbon cannot be customized - in particular, you cannot add macro buttons to an existing tool tab and you cannot create new tool tabs. So, if you rely on macros for efficiency, you can only access them by clicking the developer tab, then clicking the macro button, and then selecting them from the list. This is simply not workable. Further, as others have mentioned, some VBA macros that worked fine in 2011 will not work in 2016. Bear in mind that the Cite While You Write functionality in EndNote will not work since macros can't be added to the ribbon and there's no other way to access the functionality. This is very disappointing.

    While the UI is obviously fresher than in Word 2011 and you have ready access to OneDrive, there is no compelling reason to upgrade to this version and, sadly, there are many reasons to conclude that Word 2016 is less functional than Word 2011.

    Hi! I wanted to install the new office 2016 after using the preview version, but when I logged into my Microsoft account, the “install” option is not highlighted for me to click on it. Any ideas why this is the case?

    Pablo, unfortunately we don't have access to the stacks sent to Apple, it would need to be reported using the Microsoft Crash reporting tool, but seems like you are not getting that. I did not get any attachments, would you be able to post the stack here on answers?
