OneNote (OSX) Language Proofing

Any news on this? I have just started with OneNote as a digital alternative and I cannot set the default language. I am using a Macbook Air on Yosemite with a French keyboard but the majority of my correspondence is in English and all my other programs (Including all my Microsoft ones) work just fine except for OneNote!

I am very surprised that this program has a startling lack of functionality in such a basic yet very important area. If there is some sort of straight forward solution to this issue, please let me know! I will have to hold off on integrating OneNote into my daily routine until I know there is some sort of fix for this. I really hope there is one, From this thread I see that this issue has been going on since summer.

Hello Chris, I'll explain all procedure step by step.

I've got two language keyboard (English + Russian), I don't like some symbols mapping on Mac keyboard, so what I'm doing:

1) Download "Ukelele_2.2.8.dmg"

2. Choose Russian keyboard as default input source in OS X
3. In Ukelele 'File' -> 'New from current input source'
4. Remap any key (for example remap '=' with '~' or any key)
5. In Ukelele 'File' -> 'Save' (you will get 'FileName.keylayout' file)
6. Move this file to '/Library/Keyboard Layouts'
7. Open OS X 'System Preferences' -> 'Keyboard' -> 'Input Sources'
8. Press '+' at the bottom of the window to add new input source
9. Choose group 'Others' and pick our 'FileName' (custom layout we've just created)
10. Choose our custom input source (Cmd + Space or mouse clicking on top right corner of yor mac screen with flag)
11. Launch 'OneNote' and start typing

Result:

All words you're typing with custom input source will be underlined with spellchecker, as OneNote can't recognise language from custom input source it will choose system default input source (which for me is English), but because I'm typing with Russian input source all word got underlined.

This custom input source works fine with all Microsoft Office 2011 applications, and all other applications in OS X, but OneNote doesn't work fine. So please contact 'Office 2011 for Mac' developers, they will explain to OneNote developers how to do spellchecking correct way!

P.S. For testing you can replace Russian with any language you want, but not English (while English will remain your default input source in OS X Settings)

P.P.S. As Microsoft doesn't fix this bug for 6 months I recommend everyone switch to any better solution with correct spellcheck. As for myself I got that Microsoft can't write soft for Mac at all.

That's the problem. People write in other languages than the keyboard default. And if it's a laptop, they don't even have a chance at changing it.

That's why the operating system sets a default language which is used by all programs. OSX even detects the language you're writing in, and adapts the spellcheck automatically.

Except OneNote - on my mac it's literally the only program that ignores the system default and behaves in this severely irritating way.

This is indeed extremely annoying. I am a Finn working in US so I have Mac with Finnish keyboard but obviously most of my work is in English. Now OneNote sets Finnish as default spell check lang in OneNote and I keep on having to select text and change it to English (US).

Why is this not a setting per OneNote app like it is in Word, Powerpoint etc...
