When I try to download Office Home & Business 2013, I'm getting this error.

I can not find Office on my computer, however it's listed in my programs.  When I try to uninstall it I get the following error.

I need to get this installed and setup.

Thank you!

A big "thank you" to everyone on this thread.

Had the same issue as everyone else and after trying multiple remedies, I determined that it is indeed a network issue.

Long story short, I had to take my work laptop home with me and install Office 365 on my home network.

For what it is worth, just like the previous user mentioned, we also have a Sonicwall firewall in place at our office.

I've brought my laptop back to the office and so far Office 365 has been running well.

(I suspect if I try installing any additional Microsoft software, the same issue will repeat itself.)

Without the users on this thread I would have thrown my laptop out a window.

Microsoft, you need to figure out a proper solution. In the meantime you owe the folks on this thread a "Thanks" as well.

Out of my experience I can confirm that a "hidden proxy" (whatever that is, a proxy is supposed to be transparent, isn't it) can cause problems for these services:

    • OneDrive
    • Microsoft Store
    • Windows Updates
    • Installing and activating Office365
    • Windows 8.1 to deduce Internet connectivity in general (it claims to have reduced or no access to the Internet)

and probably a number of other things.

It would be so nice of Microsoft to confirm this in a technical brief on TechNet or here. But in general it is causing quite a number of question on this site as well.

    So Microsoft, either

    1. Document it! There are circumstances that the above mentioned service are not available when behind a proxy server
    2. Update your software. This has been going on since the start of 8.0 and really should be addressed (oh, and take a way the Start button while you are at it)

(I presume that Microsoft somehow links the services to a media access control address and in this way can make sure a legit user is accessing the above mentioned services. It breaks functionality of the product, though.)

Neither of these has fix my problem. I still cannot install any office products. This is really silly that I coulnt even uninstall the product. Where is the support for purchased products!

    Hello Frank,

As you’re unable to uninstall Office 2013, you may manually remove the Office traces from the Computer by following the link below then try to install Office and check how it works.

Refer to the section ‘Manual steps for uninstalling Office 2013 or Office 365’ in order to manually remove the Office traces then try to re-install Office and verify the status.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us

Also while trying to install Office 2013/Office 365, try the steps suggested by other users who were able to install by changing the network connection.

Let us know the result to assist you further.

    Thank you.

Yes, same here. Initial error code appeared when I was at work, but as soon as I came home it worked without a single problem. Office all installed now. It must be something to do with the network connection.

I suggest anyone else still needing help should put in a support request via your Office account page (you can be called or have someone chat online with you, usually within 5 to 10 minutes). I received help almost immediately and when the first guy couldn't help, he escalated the issue and I received a call this morning (I gave my desired time slot) from a senior technician. As it happens I missed the call but the technician left a message and even phoned back twice until he got me. I'm quite surprised by the excellent customer service, you just wouldn't expect it from such a huge company. Congratulations MS!
