I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this  and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

Mitigation 1: Disable "Use Office 2016 to merge changes or keep both copies" option in OneDrive. This mitigation is not preferred in our environment as it restricts sharing and

    collaboration in Office 2016.

Mitigation 2: Enable "Delete files from the Office Document Cache when they are closed" option in the Microsoft Office Upload Center Settings. This mitigation in our environment is preferred but results in slower file opening and closing and increased network use.

Mitigation 3: Pause Onedrive when the file is opened and edited, after editing has finished Unpause synching.

I am adding to what Adrian Gregory said: I went in and accessed the One Drive folder from c: users/owner/one drive.

I did that and right clicked on onedrive (don't open the folder) and choose properties. Then I unchecked the box read-only. Then apply and it brought up a status bar and I could see my files cycling through and now they don't open read-only. Hopefully that is it!! No thanks to microsoft I might add!

I tried this and so far it has worked. I have an Office 365 and Windows 10, for a techno dunce like me the instructions couldn't be clearer, more concise, and easy to apply. Thanks!

I finally just reinstalled Windows 8 out of frustration with this problem. I had to have Onedrive working properly. That fixed it. The Windows 8 reinstall was a breeze. Happy as can be. I wish I knew what caused this but a reinstall worked for me.
