Why are my onedrive documents opening in read-only mode after installing office 365 home edition?

Well, things were good yesterday after following nickuofm's instructions, but today the problem is recurring. I notice that the "read-only" copy says it is an offline copy because there's some problem connecting to the server. I see that message a lot, which makes me nervous about the reliability of keeping all my files in the cloud. Any other ideas about how to fix this problem?

I did see those instructions, which is what made me think it might be the two different aliases. I had tried entering my new primary alias and it didn't work. Now I see that I should have clicked the "Check Names" button before I clicked on OK, so fingers crossed and hoping that fixes it.

Did you by chance try these instructions I posted earlier in this thread? It worked for at least one other person.

"I found that I was having this read-only problem with only one file recently and came across this thread in my search. The things suggested here didn't appear to be the answer but it gave me the idea to compare the properties to other files that were working. This one file did not give any permissions to my OneDrive (Microsoft account) user.

From File Explorer:

Right click the file

Select Properties

Go to the Security Tab

Click Edit...

Click Add...

Type in your Microsoft account login ID

Click OK (on all 3 windows)

I've checked out nearly every other file in that folder and the one file I had issues with was the only one missing the Microsoft account."

I can now say that 8 months later, I have not had this problem reoccur on the files that I've changed.

I have exactly the same problem. I save a file to my computer's hard drive and then try to save it to One drive but get the message cant save to onedrive because it's a read only document. I change the 'read only' property on onedrive but it doesn't actually change it because I still can't save the file. As said this is an important issue that Microsoft needs to resolve I think.

Hi - I'm having a similar problem: Office files opening as read-only (Word, Excel, even Access), and they won't let me do a "save as" with the same file name. I'm using Win 8.1; noticed a reply earlier in this thread that mentioned reinstalling Windows did the trick, so I'm wondering if the Windows 10 upgrade will accomplish the same thing.

I've tried unchecking the Read-Only box at various file and folder levels multiple times, but it doesn't stick and doesn't fix the problem.

Also - after setting up this Surface with my Microsoft account, I subsequently changed my primary account alias from a hotmail account to a gmail account. Is it possible that is causing this problem? I considered changing the account on the Surface to the new primary, but I'm afraid of locking myself out of the device altogether, which seems like a bad idea.
