I'm opening a word document from my Onedrive folder on my local machine and it's opening in Word 365 in read-only mode. Why is this  and why can't I open the document in Word 2010?

Unfortunately, after following that procedure, the folders revert back to read only immediately.

There re is something deeper at work here than a simple change in attributes.

But thank you for trying to help.

I also had this problem after installing Office 365. To solve it for all documents:

    Open File Explorer

Right click on the Documents folder

    Select Properties

Click on the black box next to "Read Only" -- it should deselect it for you

    Click apply

    Confirm ok

Hopefully you will have success with this!

Nickuofm: this was the only thing that worked for me (nothing else worked). Every document that I opened (from any location) opened with the Read-Only option until I followed what you listed here. THANKS!

Great to hear, JPDutch! Mine has been holding up since I posted it here that day, too.

I am having the same issues with OneDrive for Business. I have a university account. If I double click on a file in my local OneDrive folder copy, it used to open synced to both the hard drive and online storage. It's been about 4 days that when I open it, instead of the file name I get "Wd0000003.doc" (for a Word document for example). It opens in Read-only and compatibility mode even if the original file was a *.docx. I tried adding the local OneDrive folder the Trust Center trusted locations, but no luck.

Any other ideas? The only workaround is to open within Word, directly from the cloud. Very annoying.
