Microsoft Office Upload Center cache constantly needs repair

I originally posted this in Office365 as that was the forum I was sent to from my Administrator panel. However, they have said to post here instead. So here goes.

Since a few days ago (around the time I installed Lync Basic instead of Lync 2010), the Microsoft Office Upload Center constantly needs repair. I have deleted the caches in User/App Data/Local/Microsoft/Office/14.0/OfficeFileCache and also /15/OfficeFileCache

It is the one in /15.0 that is the issue (now up to OfficeFileCache - 10.old).

When I try the repair option, it says something is accessing the cache and please close all Office apps. Even if there is no Office app running. I stopped Lync automaticallly starting, rebooted and still the same. I have to close in the systray SkyDrivePro and SkyDrive and then the Repair can continue. Then the error is cleared.

I can leave it for 10 minutes and the Upload Centre icon sits in the systray quite happliy. Until I open Windows Explorer and click on the SkyDrivePro icon, I can see my SkyDrivePro files in Explorer as normal with the green ticks, the SkyDrivePro icon in systray says it's up to date (nothing being processed) and then the Office Upload Center error comes back.

"The Microsoft Office Document Cache encountered a problem and needs to be repaired."

I have Office 2010 on the desktop and Office365 as my company's main work environment.

I'm baffled. How can I stop this happening? Thanks.

also

I have Office 2010 on my desktop and Office365 as the work environment as stated above. The only Office 2013 components are SkyDrivePro (which used to work fine without these cache issues) and Lync (just installed via Office365 as instructed by the Office365 site to upgrade the Lync2010 I used to have which worked fine).

You guys might want to look at this reply in another forum:

I am on a home peer to peer network with office 2013 so it may not be a solution if you are on a corporate domain but the solution suggested solved all my problems, including the corrupted cache that you are discussing.

I think the point is that it would be useful if you could copy and paste the instructions you were given and leave it to us to determine if it's applicabe to our situations.

Exactly, let us make our own damn decisions. Some of use are managing quite a big network of SDP and need to try anything to get this resolved. Getting denied information because "I don't feel like sharing." is annoying in the least.

Why on earth aren't you posting the regedit steps? Why don't you want to help people? Why do you think you are responsible for stuff other people do to their computers?

Please help us by posting the fix instead of telling us you have one but don't want to help others.

I explained why. I am not competent to judge if the steps I followed are right for you or your system. You need, as I explained, to report your case the same way I did: using the Microsoft case system via your subscription to Office 365. That way you can get the right steps for your case from competent people and, by adding to their information, help them get to a fix for the wider community more quickly.

For my case, as I explained, the steps are not yet a confirmed fix. I don't like to give people half an answer or one which might waste their time or one which might break their system.

What I can do is to explain to people what I have done that has got me to this partial fix and how they can do the same. If that doesn't help you, then sorry.

It's a bit like saying "my car broke but I got it fixed by giving x information to my garage who can help you if you do the same" as opposed to what you want me to do which is tell you where to put the spanner when I don't even know what car you drive. Don't ask me, ask a garage.

I don't understand why you would prefer to take advice from someone who's not competent (but at least knows the limit of their competence) rather than the competent engineers.

The best help I can offer (which is why I posted it) is to tell you how I got the help and how you can too. So I did.
