Microsoft Office Upload Center cache constantly needs repair

I originally posted this in Office365 as that was the forum I was sent to from my Administrator panel. However, they have said to post here instead. So here goes.

Since a few days ago (around the time I installed Lync Basic instead of Lync 2010), the Microsoft Office Upload Center constantly needs repair. I have deleted the caches in User/App Data/Local/Microsoft/Office/14.0/OfficeFileCache and also /15/OfficeFileCache

It is the one in /15.0 that is the issue (now up to OfficeFileCache - 10.old).

When I try the repair option, it says something is accessing the cache and please close all Office apps. Even if there is no Office app running. I stopped Lync automaticallly starting, rebooted and still the same. I have to close in the systray SkyDrivePro and SkyDrive and then the Repair can continue. Then the error is cleared.

I can leave it for 10 minutes and the Upload Centre icon sits in the systray quite happliy. Until I open Windows Explorer and click on the SkyDrivePro icon, I can see my SkyDrivePro files in Explorer as normal with the green ticks, the SkyDrivePro icon in systray says it's up to date (nothing being processed) and then the Office Upload Center error comes back.

"The Microsoft Office Document Cache encountered a problem and needs to be repaired."

I have Office 2010 on the desktop and Office365 as my company's main work environment.

I'm baffled. How can I stop this happening? Thanks.

also

I have Office 2010 on my desktop and Office365 as the work environment as stated above. The only Office 2013 components are SkyDrivePro (which used to work fine without these cache issues) and Lync (just installed via Office365 as instructed by the Office365 site to upgrade the Lync2010 I used to have which worked fine).

You guys might want to look at this reply in another forum:

I am on a home peer to peer network with office 2013 so it may not be a solution if you are on a corporate domain but the solution suggested solved all my problems, including the corrupted cache that you are discussing.

Last week, someone from Microsoft contacted me as the case has been escalated and is being looked at by MS engineers. A few points.

    1. They know about it and they have repeated it on a PC in the lab
    2. They have a number of steps to try which have solved the issue for some customers but not others. I don't want to upload these here because they involve the registry and I'm not competent at that level (I'll give it a go for myself but don't want the responsibility for others' systems)
    3. There has been an update to the standalone SkyDrive Pro **SkyDrive Pro update page** which has solved this for some people.
    4. There is something odd with the version of SkyDrive Pro as reported in various places (check the groove.exe Properties in Task Manager). The 250MB+ downloaded installer says it is 15.0.4505.1008 but in Task Manager, it says it's 15.0.4505.107 and the updater claims to be 15.0.4517.1003. I have reported this to MS but don't know whether/if it is at all relevant.
    5. After following their steps (roughly: nuking Office 2013 including SDP and Lync Basic (incs some registry keys and Task Manager ending various processes)), I could get SDP working fine. But then I installed Lync Basic 2013 and it failed again. So where we are for now is I followed their steps again but stopped after reinstalling and updating SkyDrive Pro (i.e. did not install Lync). Since Sunday, it's worked. In a few days, Microsoft will check progress and then we'll see what to do about Lync and the other 3 PCs affected.

Although I don't have anything definitive on a cure, I have updated here to let you know that Microsoft have acknowledged there is an issue and they are working on it. If you still have your issues with this, I suggest you follow MS Support procedure and raise your case formally so it can be co-ordinated with the engineering team who are working on this - make sure they are aware this is already being worked on by the "Microsoft Escalation Team". You should get a set of steps back which may work for you. Good luck, all.

Thanks to all for their suggestions and posts (at least I know I'm not alone!). Here's an update. After submitting the MOSDAL reports (26 June) as requested by MS Support, it all went quiet. On 11th July, I was contacted by a different support engineer and we started again. I was sent some logging s/w and sent in some logfiles for SDPTrace, msosync, office and groove

I then had to change PCs! So went through the whole install procedure for everything on a brand new Dell running same environment (Win7 Pro 64 bit, Office 2010 desktop, Office 365 cloud) so it was a completely squeaky clean factory fresh fully updated and fresh download of Office 2010 as at 15th July.

It worked fine. Lync Basic installed, SkyDrive Pro installed, all working as you'd expect. No idea why.

For a week..... On the 22nd July at around 13.40, the Microsoft Office Download Cache reported the same error. I had not installled anything that day. Instead of doing any fixes, I just reported it as part of the case so MS could see exactly what was happening.

The same support engineer contacted me and we started to look again on 25th July. I sent in more logfiles.

On the 29th July, the engineer sent me a "copy of our scope agreement for your issue"

And I am awaiting further response.

In summary, having replicated the issue on a brand new PC with fresh install, we still have two PCs where the MODC error prevents SkyDrive Pro working, and two PCs where we have not installed Lync Basic 2013 where Sky DrivePro and MODC/MDUC work fine without error.

I'll post updates as and when.

I have the exact same issue as you, SatelliteMike, and have had it for three weeks (still waiting on a call back from Microsoft).

I can see the blue 'syncing' arrows on my documents on the desktop, and SkyDrive Pro tells me that my files are in the process of syncing.  Nothing ever happens.  The Microsoft Office Upload center also has errors with the document cache etc.

I have SkyDrive Pro installed on 6 computers (all varying with office 2013 / 2007 / windows 7 / 8 / New / Old hardware).  Three of these computers run SkyDrive to perfection! Three of them are pitiful.

Microsoft have managed to reassure me that they will work on the case and get back to me with a technical expert - and provided me with 3 or 4 different case numbers.

Please let me know if you have found a solution to this bizarre problem!

    Cheers,

    David

Just providing a little extra feedback.

My company just purchased the Office suite subscription through (business) Office 365.

So on exactly the same PC with the same Office365 account and the same library:

    1. I removed my C2R Home Premium suite (I had already got rid of MSI SkydrivePro),
    2. I installed the C2R business suite (which has click-to-run SkydrivePro integrated).

and everything is working like a charm (though it remains slower and dumber than Skydrive).

Given the problems MSI SkydrivePro has with C2R Office components (be them Lync or the whole suite), it is beyond me why C2R SkydrivePro is not available for any (business) Office 365 suscriber.

If they can do it for Lync why not for SkydrivePro ???
