Horizontal scroll by mousewheel not working

I have a Logitech M500 mouse. This mouse has a mechanical mousewheel (the "ticking" kind), which can also be clicked from the sides to horizontally scroll. The great thing as that this works almost everywhere... In my browser, in Notepad++, basically almost everywhere as far as the programs go that I use. Except for Excel 2013.

Possibly related, it also doesn't work in regular ol' Explorer file browser windows. Not a bother, because I use Total Commander. But the horizontal scroll thing does work in Internet Explorer 10, which seems odd to me (same company behind Explorer and Internet Explorer, after all).

When I got the mouse, I did not install any drivers myself. I just connected the mouse and let Windows looks for and install proper drivers completely automatically. And since it works perfectly in the browser and my code editor, I figured the horizontal scroll function was working properly.

Is there perhaps some kind of thing that I need to do to make Excel recognize a horizontal scoll from the scrollwheel, or have I perhaps stumbled upon a bug?

    Dear Microsoft!

    I have a same problem in the Excel 2016 (64 bit) I can't scroll horizontally by my new Logitech G502 mouse on Windows 10 64 bit. The Word and the Power Point and Google Chrome browser are working.

    I used the last few year a Logitech G500. It was same problem :((

    I have an old (like 6-8 years) Logitech RX250 mouse - unfortunately it works very well.

    It looks Microsoft Excel bug. I am waiting for the bux fixing.

    This worked for me!

    I have a logitech MX master mouse whose side scroll was not working in Excel 2010, although side scroll for my logitech touch pad was working.

    I did not even know that "Status" button existed! Thanks!

    Mac user here who is forced to use Windows at work at my new job. I'm using the Apple Magic Mouse (gen. 1) with Windows with the driver from trackpackmagic.com.

    Everything works nicely in Windows with the Apple Magic Mouse and this driver, including "natural" scrolling - both horizontal and vertical in most applications. With Microsoft Office 365 desktop applications (version 15.0.4849.1003), horizontal scrolling using the Apple Magic Mouse works fine in MS Word, but doesn't work in Excel (same version as MS Word). Of course, Excel is one application where horizontal scrolling with the mouse (in this case it's the touch surface on the top of the Apple Magic Mouse) is more important than having this feature in MS Word (where it works just fine).

    This is obviously a bug in Excel - no questions about it.

    Another approach is to use a key remapper application, like AHK. It should work more-or-less for ANY hardware, including Microsoft's. And there's a ton of discussions (example), related to Excel on AHK forums. I'm a bit surprised that it looks like no one mentioned this app here before.  

    But note that "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre" might conflict with AHK.
