OneNote for Mac crashes on start

<p>Today, when using OneNote for Mac my MacBook Pro crashed. After rebooting, it told me OneNote had caused the crash. Now, everytime I open OneNote, the app crashed immediately. I've tried re-installing through the App Store and removing caches but it keeps crashing on start.</p><p></p><p>What to do? Most important is there are a lot of unsynced changes I cannot afford to lose...</p>

I was able to fix the crash on startup by following these steps from another thread:

  • Delete this folder: ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.onenote.mac
  • Delete this folder: ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office
  • Open up “Keychain Access” app on your Mac, and search for “MicrosoftOffice”. If OneNote recognized that you signed in, you will have an entry with a long name. Delete it.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Try launching OneNote and signing in again.

    You have to be very careful about this!!! I lost all my outlook e-mail due to this.

    Hi there,

    I have exactly the same issue with my Mac (running Sierra).

    I cannot open it from Mac but I can do it from ipad.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Ryan

    I'm having the same problem now since i updated to 15.25

    It crashes upon opening and I have tried all of the aforementioned strategies. Deleting the app and all the folders and restarting my comp but haven't got anywhere with it. Online version works fine

    Is there any solution to this yet?

    Deleting the folder UBF8T346G9.Office worked! I was able to sign back into my MS OFfice 360 account and no more crashes. Macbook Pro on el Capitan.
