Use of own domain name with Office 365 Home/Premium

I´m in the same situation. I have a custom domain for my family (4 users only) and I won't pay twice (US$ 20,00) just for the e-mail. They sad custom domain is going to continue without the option to create another accounts after the end of July. I'm going to wait for Microsoft to figure out that custom domains is not anymore just for business.

I also agree. My whole family use a dot com family address. I use mail forwarding from a hosting company but this can have some challenges. I would love to move my domain and sign up for office 365 home but if they can't handle my domain name then there is little benefit....

Nope they understand that there are many people who have family  domains. I would pay a one off setup fee (it would need to be relatively small though). so there is a commercial driver here.

I found out the same thing after a lot of searching on the web to try to find out if office 365 home would allow for the use of exchange server type processing of email through a personal domain.  I finally just purchased the office 365 business version through GoDaddy, which provides for a significantly lower cost version without the actual office 365 programs.  In that way, I have access to the Microsoft exchange server for processing my personal domain email and merely use my local version of Outlook 2010 to process the emails.  Now that I have the office 365 business "lite" version working well with my local version of Outlook 2010, I am hoping that I can additionally purchase office 365 home to obtain the latest version of the office suite of products, including Outlook 2013, and have it interface with the personal domain email exchange set up through my office 365 business account.  While I could just merely upgrade my office 365 business plan to a version that provides the office 365 suite of products, the cost of such an upgrade in the office 365 business plan for multiple users if far more expensive than purchasing office 365 home.  So, my work-around (if it works!) to the problem of Microsoft not allowing office 365 home to utilize a personal domain for email processing in the same way as office 365 business, means that I need to pay several extra dollars per user per month beyond the regular cost of office 365 home.

I guess we have to wait and see if MS change their mind ...

yesterday I called MS Support and the support engineer was discussing in the background with a colleague. Then he said that it's possible to use own domain with O365 Home... I just had to create a new account with my personal email adres/domain... after that I could order O365 and configure it with my own DNS domain name.

Then after changing MX records with my hosting provider this would work for me.

anyway...  I tried this anyway... I created a new account with my personal domain... then I ordered Office365Home hooked up to my paypal account....but in the end... no options for me to configure this.

The guy gave me a phonenumber to local (Belgium) Microsoft Tech support.... so I called the number.

Then I got first or second line tech support on the line, so I expained the situation and the proposed option from his colleague.

But I got a negative response.

>>> DUHH !!! What ? I don't understand their response... I times like this... people make their own family website... use a personal domain....   so I believe this is really a stupid reaction from a Microsoft Tech guy. Probably he has his own domain at home  ;-)

The only option is to choose for O365 Small Business and pay a lot more, because you need to pay for every user... every family member... so that would cost me at least 200€-250€ yearly.... please get serious !

so I give up....

Also Google Apps only has a business solution... also around 200€ yearly.

Office365 Home... useless   -> go for Office365 SMB... 2expensive !

I'll try again when Microsoft grows up and gets serious.
