Office 365 subscription, unable to activate on Mac computer "Error code:0x80072f17"

If I try to activate using the Product key, I get invalid product key error. If I tried to activate by signing into Office 365 subscription I get the below error

Error  "Sorry, there was a problem while trying to connect to your account. (Error code:0x80072f17)"

I am able to login to www.office.com/myaccount using my email address and password. I even changed my password and tried to activate using the new password but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi There,

There was an issue with activating Office 365 subscription on Mac with the associated error 0x80072f17.

At Microsoft we were able to find the root cause and have fixed the issue.

So I would like to inform you to attempt the activation again now and see if it works.

Thank you for patiently waiting for the resolution.

Ashutosh

I'm having the same problem with a brand new macbook air and a new MS Office 365 subscription. So frustrating!

I tried this today on my brand new macbook pro and no success. When I restart the computer the certificate that was changed reverts back to having a +sign on it. Not suer where to go from here.

If you are running anti virus type software as I was, I could not get activated - on my Mac.  Kaspersky is what I was using.  I turned off the protection, then activated Office once again through the process, and the MS process zipped through.  I turned Kaspersky back on, and No Problems at all since that bump in the road!

pretty simple on my end, did a full antivirus and malware/spyware scan just to make sure, and no issues.....

If you are comfortable turning off your protection for a moment.... this might work for you as well.  It is a risk you need to consider though.
