I am finding Publisher 2013 unbelievably slow, so slow as to be unworkable.

I have a new laptop and it handles all programs well including Photoshop but Publisher 2013 is extremely slow.  Even highlighting text can take over a second.  Earlier versions of Publisher are fine.  Can anyone suggest a cause and a solution?

Perhaps uncheck the "use Office to sync files faster..." setting in SkyDrive.

[Edit] After posting the above, I ran across another possible fix:

In Publisher go to File > Options > Advanced and check 'disable hardware graphics acceleration'.

I also had this problem.  I didn't when I first installed Publisher, but after about a week it became so slow it was driving me crazy!  I tried all the options that were listed in this forum, and none of them helped.  I finally just ended up uninstalling Microsoft Skydrive all together - I wasn't using it anyway - and bam!  Problem fixed! Publisher now runs great!

I was struggling with the same slow unusable situation with Publisher 2013.    I dropped back to Publisher 2010.  I do not have the time nor would I expect to fuss around trying all these patches/delete patches/updates.

........editing earlier post.

I have pretty good efficiency editing a 68.9MB pub doc in Pub2010 but it was too big to save as jpg or pdf or anything other than .pub.   Switching back to 2013 I was able to create a  9.7MB pdf but still could not export a jpg.

    @TimothyJS only! => Roll up your sleeves, cross your fingers & try the following multi-step fix...

    ACTIONS

    [You will want to print these instructions for offline reference.   IMPORTANT => DON'T SKIP ANY STEP & perform all Steps in one, uninterrupted session!  If a Step says to reboot,reboot!]

    1. Right-click on the following link, select SAVE TARGET AS... & download the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust\_support\_patches/MCPR.exe
    2. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).
    3. Restore ALL CCleaner backups (Last In, First Out order) & reboot.
    4. Right-click on the file you saved in #1 above and select Run as Administrator to run the utility. Don't TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot again.
    5. Re-assert Internet Explorer as the default Browser in the CUSTOM (<=important!) section of Set Program Access and Computer Defaults.

    6a. Right-click on the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop: http://www.slipstick.com/doit/chromehtml.reg [1]

    6b. Double-click on the file you saved in #6a above & accept the prompt to MERGE the data with the Registry.

    1. Reset Internet Explorer per the instructions on this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/reset-ie-settings

        Note=> For optimal results, check the Delete personal settings option.

    8a. DO NOT SKIP THIS LAST STEP!! => Open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414 [ignore the title & references to Vista].

    8b. Ignoring any "Not recommended" or similar warnings, run the Fix It (#50202) in DEFAULT and then AGGRESSIVE modes. [2]

    1. Reboot one last time then test Publisher functionality.
    2. Reply to this post with a status report.

    Hi Robear,

    I don't recall ever using the McAfee removal tool. Here are the answers to your other inquires:

    1. I do know where the CCleaner backups are located and I hesitate to restore them since I know they contain keys and data for programs, applications and settings that have been removed from the PC long ago. Are you suggesting that I restore these registry backups? If so, would you please let me know your rationale, consequences that you might expect and how to reverse the restorations?
    2. I.E. 11 is my default browswer.
    3. I use FireFox or Chrome about 1% of the time when I encounter a website or some other issue that I'm unable to overcome with I.E. (even by virtue of enabling compatibility in I.E.).
    4. I don't recall ever seeing a prompt from Internet Explorer about a blocked, outdated ActiveX control.

    It appears as though you are doing some very intense detective work on this issue and I appreciate your efforts.
