I am finding Publisher 2013 unbelievably slow, so slow as to be unworkable.

I have a new laptop and it handles all programs well including Photoshop but Publisher 2013 is extremely slow.  Even highlighting text can take over a second.  Earlier versions of Publisher are fine.  Can anyone suggest a cause and a solution?

Perhaps uncheck the "use Office to sync files faster..." setting in SkyDrive.

[Edit] After posting the above, I ran across another possible fix:

In Publisher go to File > Options > Advanced and check 'disable hardware graphics acceleration'.

I also had this problem.  I didn't when I first installed Publisher, but after about a week it became so slow it was driving me crazy!  I tried all the options that were listed in this forum, and none of them helped.  I finally just ended up uninstalling Microsoft Skydrive all together - I wasn't using it anyway - and bam!  Problem fixed! Publisher now runs great!

I was struggling with the same slow unusable situation with Publisher 2013.    I dropped back to Publisher 2010.  I do not have the time nor would I expect to fuss around trying all these patches/delete patches/updates.

I have pretty good efficiency editing a 68.9MB pub doc in Pub2010 but it was too big to save as jpg or pdf or anything other than .pub.   Switching back to 2013 I was able to create a  9.7MB pdf but still could not export a jpg.

    I noticed on my computer (without any other changes) that when in Publisher 2013 I disable the 'Page Navigation' that all went smoother. Thus is as well the significant difference between the older versions and the newer version. Since each page in detail is shown in the 'thumbnail' version of the site. And takes a long time until all is loaded (in the first go a lesser detail version and then in the second go a detailed version and probably the whole detailed page additional shown).

    One can alternative with either CTRL+PageUp or CTRL+PageDown navigate between those pages or use CTRL+G to directly go to the different Pages.

    So what happens, when you disable 'Page Navigation' in Publisher 2013? (Ribbon\View\Show\Page Navigation)

    Hello All,

    I can see that Timothy is currently receiving at lot of attention so people may not remember my posts.

    I gave up trying to use Publisher 2013 on my brand new home computer after failing to find solutions in online forums, such as this, and after contacting Microsoft support at least twice.

    After reading Tim's excellent recapitulation of the Publisher 2013 problem(s) I decided to offer a summary of my experience. I then read John's reply and felt I could not comment further until I had (re)tested the software, to see if automatic updates had 'fixed' matters more recently than I had given up on the newest version of the program.

    I can now conclude, that for me, the 2013 version of Publisher is still broken. Upon opening a modest 15MB document created in Publisher 2010 on my much less powerful work computer, I am confronted with crippling slowness in the 2013 version. The issue, for instance encountered when attempting to move text boxes around, is especially noticeable on pages of the document in which high resolution images are also found. Even scrolling up and down on pages in this document is saltatory. I have opened a new 2013 document, made a text box, and there are (obviously) no problems. When I then add one of the images from the troubled document or from the original source, then the program locks-up. All this time I am able to monitor CPU (fx-6300) and GPU (r9 270x) usage, and they are little affected.

    Furthermore, tonight I have installed my version of Publisher 2010 on my home computer (so that it now has both 2010 and 2013 installed) and I can confirm that these same documents are running buttery-smooth in 2010.

    As for McAfee or Norton installs, I built my own home computer so it didn't come with bloatware.
