exporting contacts FROM Outlook 365

I've worked as a computer consultant for 20 years. I have to say that Office 365 is the LEAST user friendly product I've ever seen. Impossible to do do simply things that in other products are intuitive. Right now I'm trying to export my contact list. When I search on this topic all the examples say something like go to OUTLOOK -> FILE --> OPTIONS --> ADVANCED.   After an hour of searching I dont find anything in outlook that says file . I find options but not Advanced and nothing else that leads to exporting

Hi Steve,

I will assist you with the query you have in exporting contacts from Outlook 365.

You may follow the steps below to Export the Outlook contacts:

Open Outlook, click File, Open and export and then click Export to a file.

Once you are in the import\Export window follow the on screen instructions to export the items from Outlook.

If you want to import the data into Outlook, then you may refer to the direction mentioned in the link below:

Note: Instead of Import, you need to look for the Export option in the above link.

    I think I have a workaround, at least it works for me.

    1. Create a contact group containing all of my contacts

    1. Create a new email and put the group in To or Cc
    2. Click the + to expand the group and select everyone in the group
    3. Ctrl C everyone in the group and paste it in Excel
    4. Data --> Text to Columns using delimited with a semicolon and copy the results
    5. Select a different cell
    6. Paste Special --> Transpose
    7. TRIM can be used to get rid of the extra space before the person's name/email address

    Exporting contacts / people from the Web based app...two things

    1. for a personal contact list, good 'ol Microsoft did not put an export option in, you can add, delete or import.
    2. For a 'global' contact list, the person who is the 'admin' on the Office 365 account (I'm referring to business version of Office 365 - not sure what the personal version is like), would actually need to go to the "Office 365 admin center"

    Go to Admin (at the bottom)

    Click on Exchange

    Click on Recipients

    Select one or more contacts

    click on the ...

    Export data to CSV

    Not responding to you directly, TCCarrington, just too lazy to go back to the beginning of this rant.

    As of today, you cannot export a CSV or PST of contacts from Outlook Web Access (not Outlook 365 - that isn't a real thing).  Exchange Online is the email system used for Office 365, an admin with powershell access to EO can export contacts for the default contacts folder using these instructions.

    For those complaining about not getting an acceptable level of support consider contacting O365 support which is available in the admin console for the service.  If you do not have admin access, contact your admin for help.

    This seems to be a standard problem for the 'Office 365' Administrators.  It appears that SteveShore above is trying to export contacts from Office 365 OWA, (which is not possible) and Deepa Raj immediately gives instructions for Outlook desktop client.  Not all of us have the Outlook client, we would rather our staff not use the desktop client, but the Office 365 OWA. 

    Microsoft really needs to make a division just for Office 365 OWA and have some support staff that understand the benefits and restrictions of the Office 365 environment.  If a question comes in with Office 365, don't answer with Outlook client and assume the issue is resolved.  I am really frustrated with wading through ten topics on Outlook client when I search for Office 365 issues.  It wastes my time and slows down any resolution. 

    Second rant, when will Microsoft start listening to it's user administrators and start adding feature we need and not something your engineers think is 'really cool'....  Give us the ability to import and export contacts, add group members from a file, download mail trace reports, etc.  Listen to your audience and concentrate on improving the administration process.
