Publisher 2013 - Print and PDF Quality issue for embedded Excel.

Today Microsoft has released some updates for Office 2013 but no updates/fix for Publisher! How is this possible?

Not enough time to find a fix? Who knows...only time will tell whether they ever fix it. Sometimes bugs are never fixed by software companies. I know that is not what you want to hear, but MS may decide that this bug is lower priority than others.

In this case I would suggest patience as MS has a lot on their plates right now including introducing a new Office suite and new operating system that is not going over that well. In the meantime use a different pdf tool to minimize the problem.

By the way, when I was testing this issue I tried the free pdf tool from www.primopdf.com to create the pdf from Pub 2013 and the excel file was not flattened. The quality was equal to the Office 2010 pdf tool. For the short term you could switch to primopdf. I actually use it more than the Office pdf tool as it works with any program. I also like that it allows me to append pages to existing pdf files. I know, this doesn't fix the problem, but at least it is a workaround to use until MS fixes the Publisher PDF tool.

I tried with PrimoPDF but some excel fonts are created well while other excel fonts are blurred.

The problem is Publisher 2013 not the PDF creation utility.

The text of an embedded Excel spreadsheet in Publisher 2013 is also fuzzy on screen.

 

Humm. I didn't notice the Excel text being 'fuzzy' while viewing it in the Publisher page, but then I have Publisher 2013 installed on a seperate machine. It was just after being converted to a pdf that it was 'flattened' and converted to a low resolution image. You can test for that by trying to select some of the text in the pdf reader you use. I can select Excel text in the Pub 2010 pdf but not the Pub 2013.

 

But then I have Pub 2010 installed on a 32 bit WinXP machine and Pub 2013 on a 64 bit Win7 machine, and if memory serves you are running 64 bit Win8 machine. I have also been working on the assumption that you are also importing a 2013 Excel file? What fonts are you using? There was another poster recently that was having problems with some Adobe fonts in Pub 2013 on Win8...they didn't seem to play well together.

 

By the way, be sure to use the higher resolution settings of primopdf, and perhaps that will help with the font quality.

I use Office 2013 64bit on Windows8 Pro 64bit.

I can't select text in Publisher 2013 PDF file.

Procedure to insert Excel tab in Publisher:

I copying cells from Excel

I click on special paste in Publisher

Then paste link

Then paste object as a link to Excel object.

Fonts from Excel sheet that are very bad with Primo PDF and Microsoft PDF with Puglisher 2013: Arial Narrow + Arial

Fonts from Excel sheet that are bad only with Microsoft PDF: Barcode3_9AL + Arial Narrow + Arial

I used high quality resolution with primopdf.
