scrolling speed excel with filters

Scrolling is terribly slow if I have filters active.

I have a 40,000 row sheet, and it scrolls normally when no filters are active.

If i have a filter that excludes most of the items except for 100 or so, the scrolling is unbearable. It's like its scrolling through the hidden rows or something to that effect.

I have updated to the latest office patch and i have a 2010 core i7 MBP with an SSD and 8GB of ram running Lion.

This is basic basic stuff, it's incomprehensible that this would be an issue.

    I have Cesar's example. That one is a bit slow on my Mac, but it's not horrible.  I'll definately submit this to test in the new Excel version.

    There must be more examples. I came across one of my own that's really pokey. The more the merrier!

    I WAS ABLE TO USE CESAR'S ALGORITHM AND TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE.

    So, Jim Gordon, please PLACE this to microsoft and avoid motivating to collect more and more excel charts showing th ei ssue.

    IT IS NOT THE CHART, IT HAS TO DO with the SW itself and obviously configurations, plist whatever.

    Microsoft shall work on it, so pls giv it to them and pls do not give us the feeling to look for excuses.

    Cesar and I we contributed many time to this thread .. IT IS TIME FOR RESULTS.

    Why do you need a sample file? These steps reproduce the problem:

    1. Populate cells A1:P10000 with the following formula:  =TRUNC(RAND()*100+1)
    2. Select Columns A:P and click on the filter icon
    3. Proceed to apply several filters, for example:

      a) F>25

      b) M<85

      c) B=19,35,47,66,89   (Pick any group of 5 numbers)

    Hi Antonio,

    Microsoft has announced they are building the next version of Office for Mac. Anyone who has workbooks that exhibit the scrolling problem are encouraged to put "sanitized" versions having no personal or confidential information into a public folder somewhere so MVPs can download them and get them into Microsoft's hands.

    System and hardware details are critical for this endeavor.

    Put your example workbooks into OneDrive, DropBox or other public site and paste the link and your system info into a reply. We'll get those workbooks to Microsoft so they can try them out on a variety of systems. The more examples, the better the chances of getting this fixed for the next version of Excel.

    Hi all,

    Was this ever solved? I have a new MB Air running Excel 14.3.9 and the minute I apply a filter the performance goes down the drain when scrolling (mostly use trackpad, but same with arrows..).

    Apparently, this has been going on for YEARS.
