scrolling speed excel with filters

MVPs often send alerts to Microsoft when they spot a trend. I think that Microsoft already knows that some people are having scrolling problems, as they have addressed scrolling in Office 2011 updates. My suspicion is that they haven’t hit on the source of the problem, or that fixing the scroll issue causes other problems. 

All I can suggest is to keep the pressure on Microsoft by letting them know about the problem through whichever support channel is available to you.

I have tried the steps provided by Cesar on several machines at my company. And also a friends brand new Mac Mini. I experience this problem on all machines.

Dragging the bar does seem to be much better albeit very sluggish - however, if I scroll with a Magic Mouse (maybe this is key?) which allows throwing and acceleration of the scrolling, it is very sluggish, and worst still, you have to wait for the scroll to complete if you've thrown it which can take many seconds.

I would personally say that if possible you should push this to Microsoft - and if they come back with "It doesn't look sluggish to me", even with a Magic Mouse, ask them to check CPU usage. Any developer with a sense of pride will not accept high CPU usage while scrolling.

Not quite sure of the point of these forums though. Somebody reports an issue, and years later nothing is done. Maybe they're just here to allow customers to vent frustration in the hope they "feel" the issue is been looked at, when in fact it is not.

Microsoft has not changed their policy regarding the Answers Community forums. These are peer-to-peer support. Generally, Microsoft employees do not read or respond to questions in the forums. Typically, Microsoft employees will watch the forums for a few days after releasing a new product or major update with an eye toward catching problems with a new release, but otherwise they are absent. XinXin was the Excel product manager and he was active during one of the release cycles. XinXin responded personally to several questions. XinXin accepted a prestigious position at another software company and he no longer works for Microsoft, so XinXin is out of the loop completely.

This particular problem seems to exhibit only on certain machines. I have tried to reproduce the problem in a very old Mac Pro using 10.7 and a fairly new non-retina display MacBook Pro with Mavericks 10.9 but neither of my two Macs exhibit the problem. Whether it is hardware, memory, or some other software interacting with Excel I can’t say. This sort of trouble is hard to nail down when your own machine doesn’t exhibit the problem. So be sure to include your hardware, language, OS and anything else you think might be relevant when you discuss the problem here or with Microsoft.

Why do you need a sample file? These steps reproduce the problem:

1. Populate cells A1:P10000 with the following formula:  =TRUNC(RAND()*100+1)
2. Select Columns A:P and click on the filter icon
3. Proceed to apply several filters, for example:

  a) F>25

  b) M<85

  c) B=19,35,47,66,89   (Pick any group of 5 numbers)

Yes - ONCE upon a time - there was a microsoft manager involved. The follower in the position takes other thing serius. Do not know what but not obviously the Quality mgmt or the customer care.

I am asking myself:

what is the sense of such a such a community resp threads on a micorsoft page if no-one seems to care about?

what is the sense of guys with specific grades / titles, if everything is pushed back to a self-service like

"post things to micorsoft elsewhere".

we are posting things to micorsoft here.

we payed for the softwrae

we have various seroius issues

and all posts here are treated as if they would not be existing or we would talk about all this while sitting on the veranda in a sunset.

Really unprofessional und dissatisfying.

Shouldn't we all check out, if we can move back to open-source software?
