scrolling speed excel with filters

If you scroll through the thread .. it looked like there was a MS product manager responding back a while ago, and I thought another MS employee as well.  

Has their policy changed regarding monitoring these threads?  Maybe the moderators can share this with MS?    Sending feedback via the Excel help menu just seems to go into the MS black hole.   Working together with users on this thread would be the more customer-friendly and "social" way of dealing with this.

Please keep in mind that here in this forum there are no Microsoft employees. It’s just Excel users. You can send feedback to Microsoft using Excel’s Help menu and choosing the Send Feedback option. Airing the problem here helps other users, of course, but letting Microsoft know about the problem is also important.

Here is a video of the difference in scrolling speed for Excel 2010 for PC and Excel 2011 for Mac.

The left window is Excel 2010 for PC running on a virtual machine. The right window is Excel 2011 for Mac. Main points:

• With no auto filter set, the scrolling speed in Excel for Mac is worse than Excel for PC.
• With an auto-filter set, the scrolling performance gets far worse. Even for the window to scroll up 3 rows or so, there is a noticeable lag.
• In Excel for Mac, there is a 2 sec lag between clicking on the auto-filter drop down arrow and when the auto-filter dialog shows up. The click circle doesn't show in the video. Once my arrow reaches the drop down arrow in Col B, I click it.

I've done the things suggested in this thread, and also validated and cleared all duplicate fonts. They do not help. At this point, I don't believe this will ever be fixed. Multiple people have raised this issue in multiple threads, and this has been open for more than 2 years now. The issue, seems to me, is obviously there.

So thank you Microsoft, and good look with Windows 8. I hear the traction is even slower than Windows Vista. Awesome :).

Out of curiosity, how many active fonts do you have? Maybe the number of active fonts is a factor (probably not, though)

Reinstalling Office without first completely removing Office causes problems. 

Reinstall

If you have deleted required system or Office fonts, restore them before proceeding.

Go to the Apple menu and choose Software Update. Install Mac OSX updates before proceding.

In order to have a successful reinstall of Office, you must first completely remove Office by carefully following **these instructions**.

Then reinstall, and allow AutoUpdate utility to bring Office to the current update.

Then use **Font Book** **(it’s in Applications > Utilities folder)**or other font utility to validate ALL your fonts. Delete old versions of duplicate fonts. Delete fonts that don't validate completely. Restart your Mac and empty the trash to get rid of the unneeded fonts and free up disc space.

Use a malware detection utility to make sure you Mac hasn’t picked up something nasty.

Tip: Use **Disk Utility** (it’s in Applications > Utilities folder) to verify the startup volume and repair permissions after installing Mac OS updates. You only need to run the repair permissions feature once after each update.

 What's your Mac's RAM and processor configuration?  Are you using a different version of Excel?

PLS refer to my previous replies above. Excel ist the same, RAM is fine.

 Does the workbook work OK if you restart your Mac and go directly to that workbook without opening any other applications?

I just did it AND i used the ROOT user, that has NO other SW staring automatically AND i did NOT start any other SW before => i is exactly the same slow behaviour

BTW i tried every recommendation from this thread like repair the fonts etc.

None of them changed the behaviour.

The only thing i not yet did is to competeley reinstall the OS and the MS office.

Scrolling the the side bar is as bad as moving cursor down to lowest row and continuing, so that excel needs to scroll.

AND ... entering the X in the recommended Column has a bloddy preformance.

Hope you had the filtersetting in the Workbook as stored in web resp after download.

Again ... clear the selection in the filters and I have the lightning speed as well.
