I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need
The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag
Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760
I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

Hey guys
I was just wondering if any one could help me out and fix my document. i have no idea about xml or anything code related. The word file im having problems with is actually quite important. The file contains ALL my notes for a class im in at a university. It doesn't just contain text, but lecture recordings as well, which makes the file kinda large.
I could really use some help from someone who has more experience with this if possible, I have a paper due in less then a week and i need to be able to access these notes or I might as well give myself a F.

Also, i don't know if it matters but the document is in NOTEPAD layout and there are some different tabs. I don't really know how or why this happened it was working fine last week
Hi, i'm having the same problem with a .docx file.
I tried to change the file in xml, but can't open the document.xml. And not idea what should I do next.

It said that the macros were disabled and i did not have the authority to enable them on my work computer and at home it kept saying there is an error and the macros would open and it highlighted a line of text and then it would crash and freeze. I am using windows 7.
I am having the same problem as other people with word 2010. I have a file I was working on at school and when i opened it on my computer i got the error message. It has a lot of formulas in it. The error says that the start tag end tag are not the same something about line 2 column 96042. I really don't know much about xml. Any help would be great!

The file was fixed in your original thread (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wordcreate/thread/9a790f21-c168-4a0e-91d6-a9d626e0ce7d). Tony's rebuilder worked perfectly fine on it.
You said, the rebuilder didn't work. The idea of a follow up post here was that you provide information on what exactly went wrong when you tried to use the rebuilder. What type of error message did you get? What configuration were you using (Windows XP, Vista, 7)? What version of Word?
