I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need
The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag
Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760
I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

I know nothing of XML, so please, I would really appreciate some help here. I have been working on this for a couple of months, I wouldn't want to lose this file!

Your document.xml file is indeed partially corrupted. I tried to recover as much as I could. See http://www.sendspace.com/file/yenp4i
The zip file contains 2 files. The docx file I was able to repair (should be over 50% of your original document) and the corrupt document.xml. There might be more data you can manually recover from document.xml.
The error most likely occured due to attempting to save directly to an usb flash drive (and not removing the drive correctly). Always save your documents to your local hard drive and then copy them to your usb stick. But probably more important, make backups.

Yeah, it's missing a part. Whenever I tried one of those programs to "recover corrupt word files", a couple of them managed to recover it only to that point.
I also tried checking the document.xml you sent me, but it ends up exactly at the same point where the fixed word file ends at.
That's indeed what happened. I was saving this onto an external hard drive all the time. But thanks a lot for your advice, now I know I first have to save documents on my local hard drive to prevent errors like this from happening.
