I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need
The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag
Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760
I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

I have the same problem. It says "The file "x " cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents..." Can someone please take a look at it and see if you can help me. Thank you so much.

Hi, I've got the same problem too. I've tried to fix it using help on this forum by changing .docx to .zip, but don't know anything about xml so can't figure it out. I've also tried the Microsoft Fix It programme but that didn't help. The problem with the file occurred after Word 2010 crashed while I was working on the document. The file did reopen at the time, and I only seemed to have lost about 15mins work, however I later saved and closed it then went back to it an hour or so later and it came up with the error message... and so I find myself here. Please help!!

This document has a different type of problem than what we've been seeing previously. Do you have a previous version of this file or any idea what was done to the file before it was put into this state?

I tried the suggested Fix It on your document and it works.
Thx a lot :D:D I've used the Fix It and it repaired my document. Needless to say it was a desperate situation as it was my B.Sc. thesis which I have to defend in 2 days..
