Hiii... I saved a document on my computer and when I tried to re-open it, just couldn't... I found this error message: The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag. Location: Part:/word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column:646910. I already tried to open the file with notepad but i dont understand anything that appears there... i only get nonsense letters and symbols... :s Can anyone help me pleasee??? I believe the 13th <mc:AlternateContent> tag had no close. I manually added the closing tag and was able to open the document without further repair.

I heartily recommend that you seriously proofread this repaired copy for lost content before submitting to your client or boss.

If I remember correctly, the problem with your DOCX was an oMath mismatch. You should try the fix available here,

You receive an "end tag" error when you open Word 2007 or 2010 files

... How do you fix it?

If you make sure that your Office software suite has all applicable service packs and other updates applied, the instances of this problem are greatly reduced.

    I was able to open the code in a word document.  At the top of the page it reads " [Content_Types].xml ¢", followed by a bunch of coding and symbols I can't comprehend, and near the bottom it reads "[Content_Types].xmlPK", followed by

    docProps/thumbnail.jpegPK

    word/theme/theme1.xmlPK

    Also, I was working directly do a USB drive originally.  I have been able to copy the file to my Mac but I have the same problem.

    Hey Jeeped,

    I have a Word document that I created in Word 2008, on a Mac, with an extension "docx" with the similar problem in that "the name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag, Location: 2".  Is there a way I can access the code of the document and do what you did with Pilar's document to fix it?
