Hiii... I saved a document on my computer and when I tried to re-open it, just couldn't... I found this error message: The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag. Location: Part:/word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column:646910. I already tried to open the file with notepad but i dont understand anything that appears there... i only get nonsense letters and symbols... :s Can anyone help me pleasee??? I believe the 13th <mc:AlternateContent> tag had no close. I manually added the closing tag and was able to open the document without further repair.

I heartily recommend that you seriously proofread this repaired copy for lost content before submitting to your client or boss.

If I remember correctly, the problem with your DOCX was an oMath mismatch. You should try the fix available here,

You receive an "end tag" error when you open Word 2007 or 2010 files

... How do you fix it?

If you make sure that your Office software suite has all applicable service packs and other updates applied, the instances of this problem are greatly reduced.

    Hi SachinVelankar;

    Specifically, there is a Word folder off the root of the archive structure. Within this Word folder, there should be a document.xml file. This is usually where the trouble is and would be noted by the error message you received; e.g.  Unspecified error  Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: ×××. This is where the problem is 99% of the time but check the error message to be sure. If it points to another internal XML file than the word/document.xml then that other XMl file would be the place to look.

    This assumes that the problem is within the XML coding of the document. There is another common form of corruption that occurs when working directly to and from a removable device like a USB thumb drive. If this is the case, you need some professional grade .ZIP repair software to repair the archive (aka .ZIP) structure before you can even access the internal files.

    As mentioned, if you would like someone to attempt repair on your document, you will need to upload a copy of your damaged DOCX to a public file area like OneDrive, DropBox  or Google Drive and post the location to the publicly shared file back here.

    I have the same problem. I have no background in XML editing, but am able to see lots of xml files in the word zip file. Which one do I need to edit?
