I received an email stating Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access. Is this legit or a scam?

Until a couple of months ago I was using WLM but have now abandoned it and

have imported all the message files that are eml file type into Mozilla Thunderbird

which is working well and seems to be a very good free app that gets the job done.

Thunderbird installs first with the cluttered look of all options showing and it is a

task to make the choices of what things are needed on toolbars and gradually

set what columns showing message information are wanted, the sorting order

and views can be selected so the graphical interface becomes familiar and very

similar to the WLM user interface used for years that was an efficient no frills

email app.

The eml file type used by WLM and Outlook can't be directly imported using the

helper wizard to simplify the process of transferring accounts to Thunderbird. But

the eml file types are recognized by T-bird and the icon for eml files will be

changed to a blue firefox icon as a new file association is made after installing

Thunderbird. So all email backup folders with saved eml type message files

will be filled with little blue icons. The export is a one folder at a time process

from within WLM or Outlook to created destination save folders as would be

done for routine backup. In each backup folder will be a list of message icons

and top of the list an index file icon different for that one file that will have to

be excluded from any copying of that files list into new destination folders created

in Thunderbird to be their new home. So that index file must be deleted first

or excluded from a "select all" highlighting of the files list using a scroll down

before doing a Drag and Drop of that files list into the destination folder in

Thunderbird. The files are converted during the copy by a Drag and Drop

into the different file type used by Thunderbird. The process is a bit tedious

and time consuming but it is a method that works..

Another alternative is to use the Outlook app found in the Office Professional

such as the Office Pro 2013 release which can have modern authentication

enabled through a registry switch if you are comfortable about visiting the

registry to enable a function there but not enabled by default. It is a real

shame that such an option was not made available for WLM. But it seems

now that the corporate profit strategy is to use adware and subscription

plans for every software that used to be a permanent license and not a

rental plan. It is mysterious how making peoples computers a house they

never really own is anything else but racketeering by monopolies that

somehow are being allowed by governments to do business that way.

Next up will be mugs of ale that can't be bought, but only can be rented

for the time it takes to chug one down. There will be a surcharge for any

burps or farts. Corporate master minds are working on this already and

formulating a deployment plan.

Should a user need to abandon their present email app for Thunderbird

user frustrated about the easiest way to set up Thunderbird and get it

compliant and synchronized with an outlook account having any of

the associated hotmail or other now outlook related accounts.

I am in my 70's, and don't care about copilot writing my emails, or paying $20.00/mo to subscribe. I've had this account for 25 years, so don't want to lose my email. Will I have a problem logging in now? I have a 360 account. When you click on your link it shows copilot options, which I don't care about. I just don't want a hassle with my email. So what do I need to do, in simple terms, and why can't Microsoft just include an outlook update separate from the push for copilot? Thanks

No. I used Microsoft Exchange on my desktop. Now on my tablet or phone I will have to look again.

Thanks Hal. The email states that I received it because I will have an email or calendar issue or something like that. So, does that mean that my email or calendar on some device that I have or had will stop working?
