New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

Same issue here also. For the sake of having the information, here are my current version numbers.

You have Microsoft Outlook Version 1.2023.927.100 (Production). Client Version is 20230922005.25 .

I'm having the same issue. I read all the emails and then right-click the inbox folder and mark all as read. That seems to work also.

    Hello Rich,

I apologise for the confusion, Rich. You’re correct that the new Outlook interface doesn’t have the same settings as the classic version.

This issue of read status not syncing back to Outlook Gmail is peculiar. It seems like you’ve already done extensive troubleshooting. It might be best to report this issue directly to Microsoft through their feedback hub or support channels. They might be able to provide more insight or a potential fix.

Again, I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help. If you have any other questions or need assistance with something else, feel free to ask.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.

    Hello Rich9999(2),

I apologise for the confusion earlier. I understand that you’ve already checked the standard solutions. This issue of read status not syncing back to Outlook Gmail is peculiar.

Given that you’ve already verified IMAP settings, ensured Windows updates, confirmed two-step verification, and checked folder settings, this might be a more specific issue with the sync between Outlook and Gmail.

You could try to check the sync settings specifically for your Gmail account in Outlook. Here’s how:

    Open Outlook and select File.

Go to Account Settings > Account Settings.

On the Email tab, double-click on your Gmail account.

In the Change Account window, click on More Settings.

Go to the Advanced tab, and under ‘Folders’, ensure that the option ‘Mark items for deletion but do not move them automatically’ is selected.

This setting sometimes affects how Outlook syncs read/unread status with Gmail.

I hope this helps, and I’m sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you. Let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.
