I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

We're all in agreement here. Since it has already been acknowledged by Microsoft that there is a problem on their end, (and I don't want to speak for everyone here), but can't there just be a new posting from them today and periodically until this is resolved? We're stumbling in the dark here and it's impacting the ability to reach out to clients, hear from clients, send and receive necessary documents and so forth.

Also, if and when this is fixed, I hope this user community opines on that status, so we're all aware that it is truly fixed.

There's no doubt at this point that this is an issue wit Microsoft back-end services, and Microsoft has acknowledged it in a one paragraph article that has a link back to this thread but irresponsibly does not inform people that the thread is now about the server-side issue. 9folders is tricky because the fact that they have a workaround does inform the topic but to your point that discussion, except to say "9folder users can try that setting" does not pull in the direction of pressuring Microsoft to address the underlying issue. Also FYI it's not just third-party apps. I have two properly licensed and paid for Windows 10 workstations with paid freestanding versions of Microsoft office 2021 Pro outlook and even there the issue cannot be avoided. I also suggest that people report it at down detect or under Microsoft 365-Outlook. https://downdetector.com/status/microsoft-365/

So wait, I'd like to understand here.
MSFT keeps and maintains a massive set of user support forums accessible to billions of users globally.
One of those forums in which this issue was first reported (by me regarding O2013).
MSFT recognized the issue on day 2.
MSFT provided an acknowledgement on its own page.
9Folders users (apparently bereft of their own forum in which they can gripe about MSFT,) hijack one of the tracking threads for their own support.
A hijacking which, by the way as blown up in ALL our inboxes (not just 9Folders users).

And then in the process, 9Folders users can't appreciate any of what MSFT brings to them and instead continually throw MSFT under the bus?

Some clients are using older software that is no longer updating and can not rely on developers to create workarounds to fix a Microsoft bug. While it is great for those who are using newer software and have technical expertise, many people using older devices, software, and operating systems can not rely on this. There needs to be a wide industry standard that is followed. This issues does not affect any Gmail accounts, which indicates that it is not a client developer issue but a Microsoft issue that is not following standards.

Absolutely agree with you 100%. It should not have happened in the first place, but since currently the only options appear to be 'wait' or 'find another solution' (which may mean switching to Gmail and leaving Microsoft entirely, or may mean using alternative apps if your hardware can support them) I'm struggling to see what else we can do. 9Folders is only available on mobile platforms (iOS and Android) I believe, and they may be able to advise you if contact them. Clearly that would not help if you are looking for a PC solution and don't have a mobile device which could be used in the interim. None of this is ideal, all of it is a compromise until MS gets its act together, and meanwhile all of us - the users - are left scrabbling about trying to find some means to keep hold of our data until a more permanent solution is provided.

This issue has been escalated to the Outlook Team and its being investigated.

Gabriel it's been 6 days since the issue started and 3 days since your post. Could we have an update please?
