I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Yes, most of yesterday was fairly good but started to have issues again towards latter part of the day.

I want to raise another issue people may not be thinking about. This whole server-side change is in the name of "improving security" but its having the opposite effect! I have entered my credentials more times since 1/23 until now than I think I have in the last 5 to 10 years combined. Not sure if MS has thought about this... what if someone is unlucky and has some type of virus, trojan horse or malware that is keyboard-logging or monitoring what you are typing... Your password could have been expose to these risks. I tried to just cancel the pop but I've noticed I need at least enter the credential once in a while, or it will stay unauthenticated for a long long time.

We are coming to one month anniversary of this issue. Can MS clarify the current game plan, and if we should start looking for alternative email platforms to transition to?

Curiously, yesterday, my outlook 2016 worked normally all day. I truly believed that Microsoft had found the solution to this password popup problem. But no... this morning, it's back to the way it was on day one, January 23! In fact, I think the problem has even gotten worse. What happened yesterday to make my outlook software work normally and not today? Please Microsoft, continue to investigate.

You're misunderstanding (maybe instead of just quoting a couple lines, read the entire post, it contains further context). I'm not being tolerant or accepting, I'm explaining to you how corporate minds work.

A small percentage of inconvenienced users that are not huge corporate clients is not even a blip on their radar. I hate to break it to you, but for the most part MS could care less if anyone in this thread was a client of theirs or not. There has not been any publicity or news coverage around this, which is the only thing that would actually make them care.

Do you really think all the people making threats and stomping their feet in this thread is going to make any difference at all? I think the duration of the outage, lack of urgency, and the fact that they clearly are NOT going to roll back whatever change they made answers that question.

The best you can expect here is other users providing what they've found as workarounds/temporary fixes, and hopefully some sort of updates from MS every so often. The MS employee here has been actively collecting info and feeding it back, honestly that's far more than you'll usually see on this forum.

Rather than wasting so much time here, you should probably be focused on why your supposedly Oauth2 enabled accounts/clients are having problems, when those have not been impacted for others.

It looks like MS is still trying to apply small bandages here and there for what appears to be more of a systemic problem.

Continues to request new sign in. No new emails being received. Generally, the sign in takes and new emails start to arrive, but unless I check the 9Folders app to see the authentication error or the sign-in request, I don't know I'm getting new emails. Really, really hope that MS is making some progress here. 24 days and counting.
