HOW TO Generate a YAHOO APP PASSWORD - standard instructions NOT WORKING!!

hi - having same problems. Successfully linked my yahoo email to outlook for many years on one laptop. Tried to do the same on another laptop - no go. Have tried many options without success Thankfully never deleted the old Outlook Desktop App password so its still there somewhere. Thats my question . You state 'There is a way for you to find the one that has been working for Outlook.' I do have a successful password that was generated a year ago - how and where do I find it so i can copy ? ??.

This just worked for me less than five minutes ago. And I hope it resolves our issues with Yahoo and avoid any in fighting in this thread too.

1. Go to your copy of Outlook which has a working app generated password for Yahoo.
2. Go to File/Account Settings/Email Accounts
3. Select your Repair (your Yahoo account obviously) and choose to repair manually. You can see your existing and working app generated Yahoo password.
4. Copy it and use that password in another computer,

It seems Yahoo has a limit of the number of passwords given to a specific app/account nowadays. Regardless, it still worked for me and I am now a happy camper :). And hopefully it will work you too.

Thanks to Choices Books and Gifts and Harborview Marina. After seeing their messages, I was able to resolve this issue as described below.

In setting up my new laptop, I have struggled with this exact issue for a whole day in vain. When every attempt failed, I even set up forwarding of all my email from yahoo accounts to gmail accounts, etc. After reading CB and HM's messages, as I had been using Chrome the whole time dealing with this issue, I tried switching to Edge, which was pretty much a vrigin at that time. Then Yahoo did generate a new app password for Outlook that worked.

Lessons learned (from hind sight):

a. Don't bother to delete the old app password for Outlook and create a new one. There is a way for you to find the one that has been working for Outlook. Just copy and continue to use it.

b. If you already deleted the app password that has been working for Outlook, the app password will not work anymore. If you find that Yahoo can not generate a new one for you, you may try using a different browser or clean up your browser's cookies/histories in order for Yahoo to regenerate a new one for you.

I know I'm late to this thread but I was having the same issue you were and may have found the workaround. Yahoo must have changed something on their end and it ended up breaking how my bellsouth email plays with my mail app so I've been digging for this password generator and like you it doesn't appear on the yahoo site like it says it's supposed to. As a side note for those who don't know, Bellsouth was an old telecom company that ended up being bought out by AT&T in the early '00s. Their email addresses were taken over fully by AT&T and supposedly then by Yahoo, hence trying to find this password generator through yahoo.

Even though bellsouth emails should be yahoo now, I actually found this password generator deep in the account settings on the att.com site. Below is how I get to them:

1. Go to att.com
2. Sign in using bellsouth account (or other if your bellsouth account is linked to another name?)
3. Under the "My AT&T" dropdown in the top-right, select "Go to my account"
4. Under the "Welcome Back", select "See Profile"
5. Scroll down to "My Linked Accounts" and under the bellsouth email account select "Manage Secure Mail Key"
6. From there, click "Add a secure mail key", give it a nickname, and use it to login with your email software of choice.

I would recommend looking up yahoo's imap instructions and setting up your mail app manually since if an auto setup gets something wrong I think you have to delete the key and make another one. I put a picture below of where this setting is and it's url but if the steps above are confusing I can make a more detailed step-by-step with pictures of how I get there.

Pretty much the same...my Outlook instructions say...go to Yahoo - Account Info and click on Generate App Password...hence the problem! there is no option to click on anything close to that command. And believe me, I have searched every conceivable option and it just keeps looping back to the same scenario.

I finally did find something under my Microsoft account that is close...looks like "Smart Key" has potential but I'm kinda lost in too many passwords right now so trying to manually re set up Yahoo Mail in Outlook. Sometimes I really HATE Outlook!!
