Can't Generate 3rd Party App Password (AOL) for Outlook 2016 Desktop using Windows 11

I have been using Outlook 2016 Desktop for Windows for quite awhile to access my AOL - (Verizon.net) emails. Just recently, I can't sync my AOL emails to my Outlook 2016 Desktop app. I can not generate an app password via AOL in order to sync and download my new emails to Outlook. I have contacted AOL several times and they are NO help at all. How can I generate a 3rd Party App password to make my outlook work as before? Any ideas/solutions on how to get around this issue?

P.S. I am using Outlook 2016 Desktop (Windows 11), not Outlook 365 or Outlook.com app.

    I was having the same problem trying to generate an AOL password on my PC. Tried over and over.

    Then I tried it using the AOL app on my phone. Worked first time.

    I am not a paying AOL member and I was able to change two of my Verizon accounts but not the 3rd one I have.

    After muliple attempts at trying to get an AOL app specific password by going into my AOL accounts using the AOL website, I finally found a solution by using the AOL app on my iPad (I haven't tried this on my iPhone, but presumably it should work).

    1. Download and open the AOL app on a mobile device
    2. Sign on to your account
    3. Click on "AOL" in the upper lefthand corner
    4. Click on "Manage accounts"
    5. Click on "Account Info"
    6. Click on Security Settings"
    7. Scroll down to "Generate and amange app passwords"
    8. Enter your the name of the app (or however you want to name the app)
    9. Click "Generate password"
    10. I suggest that you write down the password.

    To add an AOL account to Outlook:

    1. Open the control panel
    2. Click on "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)"
    3. Click on "Email Accounts"

    4 Click on "New"

    1. Click on Manual setup or additional server types"
    2. Click "Next"
    3. Click "POP or IMAP"
    4. Click "Next"
    5. Fill in the information (see below)
    6. Click"More settings..." Important: make sure that youe have the righr settings
    Protocol Server Settings Port Settings
    POP 3 Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.aol.com <br> Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com POP3-995-SSL <br>SMTP-465-SSL

    I was having trouble getting my verizon email to work on outlook also after the laptop was idle for a year. AOL would not generate one time passcodes initially. I read through this blog and tried the suggestion above about logging in for a few days. after a few days, it generated the onetime passcodes. Thank you so much for that tip. If anyone has any idea how long the one time password will work if the computer is idle (before needing a new passcode), that would be helpful. I have laptops in multiple locations and sometimes will go awhile without using the outlook email. I also generated extra one time passwords as suggested. Again, if anyone knows how long these will work, that would be helpful. Again, thanks.

    I could not get a new app password generated using Safari. I tried doing it in Chrome, and it worked on the first try.
