The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again. HOW LONG IS THAT MOMENT?

Today I received an email from Microsoft saying

Security alert
We think that someone else might have accessed the Microsoft account ed**___@___.___. When this happens, we require you to verify your identity with a security challenge and then change your password the next time you sign in.

I've changed logged in, went through the security checks, and I've changed my password, but now when I try to log in, it tells me

Something went wrong and we can't sign you in at the moment. Please try again later. The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again.

I'm on a Mac, and I can't access it through the Mail app, nor through a web browser. I've cleared the cache, I've restarted both the app and the browsers and the computer, I've tried different browsers, as well as Incongito Window mode, with no luck. It works on my phone Outlook app, though. But I can't access my emails on my computer?

Any ideas? How long do I have to wait to try it again? I've allowed an hour to pass and I'm still experiencing the same issue.

Thanks.

    Found a solution! I had the same issue today, with that message showing up every 30 seconds;

    I'm using Microsoft Edge.

    My solution was to refresh the page, block all the active cookies (by clicking on the lock icon next to the address bar), then to unblock them again (using the same lock icon - otherwise Outlook is not working anyways). Someone else mentioned the issue seemed related to cookies. It seems to be the case.

    Here it is almost a year later and this is still happening to people? I've been getting this message for a few days now, and if I hit the back button I can get to my email again...for a few minutes anyway. It seems more like a glitch than someone trying to login to my account. Any resolution on this?

    Happening to me now. I click into my outlook.com, my email loads, and after a few moments I get a new screen with this same error. If I'm quick I can open one email maybe before the screen pops up. This makes no sense to me why this is happening. I turned off adblock, added microsoft.com to allowed 3rd party cookies and java script, I'm even logged into microsoft.com right now. I'm baffled, have never had any issues like this. I'm using the latest updated Google Chrome on Windows 10.

    This is terrible, I agree!! I pay for this service and it doesn't even work. No wonder so many people just use Gmail. I even had Microsoft do a remote session and they checked a couple of things and said I should be good to go now and guess what.... NOT !!!!
