I am using the free version of Outlook.com and followed the forums and help how to set up a GMail sync to Outlook.com.

However since two days I got this clicking on the "Sync Email" menu.

Even the X button on the upper right corner does not operates when being in this menu.

I tried this menu in browsers like Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera.

All the same results.

Questions:

  1. can I use Gmail sync using free version of Outlook.com?
  2. do you know this

TO everyone in this forum who has had the problem with setting default email address in Outlook.com (which I confirmed flows through to the Outlook 365 email client):

After weeks of failing with the Settings>Email>Sync Email route in Outlook.com email (and getting the ""Unable to Load these Settings" error), Donny's suggestion of going to  https://account.live.com/names/manage](https://account.live.com/names/manage)  and changing my "Primary Email Address" WORKED!!! :) No more frustration ... thank you Donny & [Diane Poremsky MVP.

NOTE: After I made the update in my Microsoft Account settings, it took about 15+ minutes for the default update to be reflected in Outlook.com and Outlook 365. To play it safe I would suggest waiting 30 minutes and then logging out and back into your account(s).

Thanks - I had already done that actually, but still no luck. I remain signed in to Outlook as outlook_******@outlook.com

Try setting your primary email address in your Microsoft account settings to your personalised email address. I have had it confirmed that it is safe to do this despite what it says in the FAQ.

Exact same situation with me - moved the family over with custom domain, but since I am unable to set the default "from" address I've had to revert everything back to G-Suite. Right now I get some crazy from address like "outlook_******@outlook.com on behalf of ..." address which obviously won't cut it.

Very frustrating that this is happening, and worse that it's been going on for so long. It basically makes the entire concept of a personal domain useless and they should not be currently selling that as a feature because you can't actually get it to work.

    Simon,

You can at least make sure that all your mail is automatically forwarded to outlook.com despite the failing sync.

Set up a filter rule at your mypostoffice.co.uk mailbox:

    • if subject is empty or if subject is not empty
    • forward to outlook.com address

This will make sure all your emails end up at outlook.com

Next - and this will remain something of an issue - you will need to make sure that your outgoing emails and replies are sent from the outlook.com address. For this you have to manually set the FROM address to your outlook.com alias, each time again.

You can enable the visibility of the FROM address in the outlook.com email settings.

Within these premises, our issue has become something of an annoyance. An annoyance that may be a bit too much asked for to our aging parents. So yes, Microsoft still has things to do; either re-establish the sync functionality or fix the remaining issue with the default FROM address that is still off.
