Shortly after I ope Outlook, I get a message saying "There was a problem with Microsoft Office and your recent work might be lost." I have tried restrating the computer and also re-installing Office. I'm running OS 10.13.6 (the latest version that my old computer will support).

The first part of the error report is:

For users of version 16.43 a user named Byte99 tried this solution. It might work for you!

ReplyIn reply to Jim Gordon MVP's post on June 17, 2021 I may have found a fix, at this link (great tip from my IT guy--I didn't know these tools existed; my own internet searches didn't find them).:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/troubleshoot/outlook-for-mac/useful-tools

The link has four tools:  Outlook Search Repair, OutlookResetPreferences, SetDefaultMailApp, and ResetRecentAddresses.

    I downloaded and ran OutlookResetPreferences.

This seems to have fixed the problem -- I was able to connect to my work's email server without Outlook crashing!  And, in addition, it didn't delete anything that I could detect (especially my ~35 lines of junk mail filter rules, which would be a pain to reconstruct).

I've gotten it working on version 15.X but am definitely missing later features like Teams integration.

    " A Ray of Hope"

Ok, I am up and running, but on Outlook 15.41 for the time being. I followed the instructions here to get me back, I just followed the Outlook part.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-go-back-to-office-2016-for-mac-15-xx-versions-from-16-xx-e88ed6c8-6fb4-40a1-9540-529000d3d20f

This seems like it may be "ok" but I don't have MS Teams integration in this version which is a problem for me. I have auto updates off, so I have done what I can to keep from updating. This configuration may be an option for some.

    Good luck.

I have the same issue on an iMac 2010 running the latest version of High Sierra with all the latest security releases.

My iMac was running the latest versions of Office 2019 and on 29 May 2021 I replace this install with Microsoft 365 license. Everything was working fine including Outlook version 16.43. I was even busy writing emails.

(At the time I was annoyed that the Teams button was still not available)

Anyway after about 5 min of use a small window pop up (I don't remember the exact words) that some improvements to the calendar needed to be installed followed by an app restart. This was very quick. It was not through the AutoUpdate app. From that point Outlook will start and then immediately crash. If WiFI is off, then Outlook continues without crashing.

Someone else has mentioned the calendar is the issue - I tend to agree. I'll play around with some shared calendars now....but MS please resolve ASAP!

I've 2 Macs: one with the latest version of every thing and an old iMac (iMac 27-inch, Mid 2010) with old versions (MacOS 10.13.6 and Outlook 16.43.20110804). They are both behaving the same which suggests it is a back end change made by Microsoft on Tuesday.

I've kept on pressing auto-restart so Microsoft should have lots of logs to analyse. It is different threads that crash and it does make some progress with each run but doesn't stay up long enough to compose and email.
