ToDo, Flagged Emails and opening in Outlook Desktop

When I open MS to Do app and open whether it is an email flagged or a task from my planner in teams when I try to open it, it opens in the web-based instead of the desktop. Am I missing a connector to my desktop or something?

I am a big user of the To Do app myself, for keeping track of everything. We also use Planner for tasks within various departments, and these tasks show up in the To Do app, so it's not something I can simply stop using.

The "old" Outlook desktop client has the To Do app built in. So you can use this "version" of the To Do app which does open the items in Outlook.

A nice little trick is to right click the To Do app > Pop out app

Better than nothing, since, yes, it seems like MS wants to force us into the severely feature lacking "New" version of Outlook (read: OWA wrapped in a "desktop app").

    Not true.

The connection from Outlook to ToDo app is broken. It doesn't matter if from Outlook app or Outlook web, when you click on the ToDo "Functionality" it always opens the web version of ToDo.

If what you say worked, it wouldn't be a workaround, but the solution to the problem.

Nah. I gave up on ToDo and switched to Todoist. Congrats to Microsoft, I still don't understand the rationale of all this, because I refuse to think they are just "idiots"...

As a workaround you can use the Todo Functionality within Outlook. Then it opens the e-mails within the app and not in the web.

If you access ToDo from the Outlook desktop app, by clicking the blue checkmark on the left menu bar (the same place you would select Calendar, or Contacts) you can then open flagged emails in the desktop app. Again this only works inside the outlook desktop app. If you open ToDo directly, the open in outlook feature will link to the web version of outlook.

I am glad this feature is there, but I feel like it is an 80% solution to the ask. It would be really nice if inside ToDo, you could set an option to choose between the Desktop app, and the web app. Hopefully this will be added some day.
