iOS Outlook App - repeatedly closes on-screen keyboard (whilst typing!) and “attached” keyboard

I’ve been using iOS Outlook for a while on an iPad Pro. Apart from its quirky style, which is a bit of a steep learning curve, even coming from over a decade of using Outlook for Windows, it has a major keyboard bug. It closes the on-screen keyboard (whilst typing!) and even an “attached” physical keyboard is deactivated during typing.

This manifests itself thus: you can type two or three words, then the keyboard on the screen disappears. So you reload it, type a bit more, and it closes again.

It does exactly the same thing for at attached physical keyboard.

If I switch to the iOS Mail app (native Apple), I have no keyboard issues, either on screen or physical. The same is true for all other apps on the device.

This strongly supports the fact that the iOS Outlook app has a keyboard bug. I’ve reported this to my IT department, who say nobody else says it does this. I have seen online similar iOS keyboard issues with Microsoft apps in the recent past, so I suspect this is a known bug.

Solution is not to use iOS Outlook for typing. :-)

Anybody know a ‘fix’ for the app please? I’ve reinstalled it, to no benefit.

Have you tried disabling raise to wake? That seems to have solved the issue for me.

In working with MS support, they identified two bugs causing this behavior. The first (and more common cause) has FINALLY been fixed in the latest version of Outlook for iOS, the second will be addressed in v4.2106.0. I can confirm the issue has not resurfaced since the update!

I keep trying to unsubscribe from this feed. There is no "unsubscribe" option in the question; only "Subscribe" and "Report abuse." Can someone help me unsubscribe from this endless chain? Apple's not going to fix this, and Outlook isn't trying either. Ugh.

I have also had this exact same problem on my iPhone Xr with the latest iOS 14.2, and only with the Outlook app.  This is my work phone, which is managed by my organization, so many of the suggested fixes here are not easily available to me.

For anyone else in this situatuon, I have found another fix that I can actually do myself that seems to be working for me:  Turn off Slide To Type

Go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard and untoggle “Slide To Type”

Hope this helps someone else experiencing this maddening problem.

    Hello Andrew,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have searched at the backend, and didn't find any related issue about it. As in the forum, we have limited knowledge about the Outlook for iOS application, if you get any updates from the in-app support, please feel free to share it in the forum. Your understanding and cooperation would be highly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Rick
