Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

I also encountered a problem with IMAP recently.

Emails sent from Outlook for Android are delivered OK and appear in the sent folder but they do not sync up.

They are not in the sent folder when viewing email from Windows Office Outlook, Mail for W10 and Webmail.

This is happening on more than one Android device, on more than 1 email account hosted by different providers.

Office Outlook, Mail for W10, Webmail and Samsung email all work correctly.

Did anyone else encounter this problem ?

Outlook for Android support are currently checking this out.

I am reluctant to delete and re-add the accounts in case I lose emails sent from Android

This evenin , the problem recurred.  Outlook on my Android Surface Duo asked me to sign in to my IMAP account again, after working for about two days.  To restore the account, I was sent to the settings page where I reentered my password. That did not work.  I deleted the account and set it up again. That worked. I expect, in a couple days, this will recur.

This time, I recovered the account while conferring with my email provider's tech support. They confirmed that the setting entries I have been using are correct.  After some troubleshooting, they advise, contrary to Microsoft Outlook Mobile Support, that there is no problem from the servers' end.  Their reasoning is, "You  have already checked  the server setting  multiple time  in  your  outlook  you  have also tried to update  your  password  and still your  outlook  is not working. Also you are able to  access your web  mail and other IMAP device.

In addition to that,  I have no problem with Outlook on iOS.  On the iPhone, neither Outlook or the server is asking me to sign in again.

I have passed this along to Outlook Mobile Support via the Android Outlook Mobile, and I have, yet again, asked for escalation.  Looking forward to the answer

I'm having the same problem with an IMAP account on the new Surface Duo, using Outlook.  It works, then periodically, it stops working and asks me for the password again.  Entering it again sometimes works,.  Sometimes, I have to delete the account and set it up again.  All the while, my Exchange mail account keeps humming asking perfectly fine. Yahoo asking works too, though the same thing did happen to the Yahoo account once.  Outlook Mobile support, accessed via the app, has been unhelpful.  Here's where we stand after many messages back and forth.

    Me:

Let's be sure we understand each other. This IMAP Sprynet account does not have dual authentication. It only uses a password. The server does not cause any of the following to applications to re-challenge me for a password, ever: Outlook 2016 for Windows, Apple's Mail in IOS, Google's Mail in Android, Microsoft's Mail in Windows Mobile on Microsoft's Lumia 950. You are saying that the server is asking Outlook Mobile to re-challenge me for password, that it is not Outlook Mobile's failure to retain the password?

    Microsoft Outlook Mobile Support Agent:

Hi, this is exactly what Im' saying, the Server ask Outlook Mobile for the password.

    Thank you

Does that make any sense to yo ?  Doesn't an email server always seek authentication?  And, if no other email client on any other device has a problem, if it's only the Outlook App on an Android device, don't you think it's a problem with Outlook?

Just for kicks, I've setup the account on Outlook in iOS, to see if the problem manifests itself there, though I haven't found any reported problems for Outlook on IOS.

New version of Outlook does not even offer the advanced IMAP and SMTP settings.

I just tried the latest version 4.2041.3 (October 31) and the advanced IMAP settings switch is still there (bottom right corner).
