Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

This issue has started again for me on August 24th. Refuses to login, even though nothing has changed.
Account is working fine on other apps and webmail.

I'm also having the same issues, for the umpteenth time. I don't know why I've come back for more punishment at OfA. I was stupidly optimistic that it might be fixed by now.

This morning I wasted more hours of my life trying to add my email accounts to OfA, and more time wasted dealing with the non-responsive 'support' bot.

As usual, the tech support person simply vanished.

I've been happily using BlueMail after giving up with OfA over a year ago, so I might as well stay with it.

    @Microsoft

    1. Is it correct that the software is not at all compatible with STARTTLS SMTP servers?
    2. Can future versions of the software give an informative warning as to why does it fail. We are kept in the dark here, we dont even know whether it is the IMAP- or the SMTP-connection which is failing !
    3. Can future versions of the software not point us in the the wrong direction? In my case the problem was clearly STARTTLS, Yet
      1. First the Outlook client says: Login Error, The connection to your mail server timed out. Such a strange text, because the client disconnected from our SMTP-server immediately. Nothing is kept waiting.
      2. Next, the outlook client leads me to the text below, which is really not the point. The certificate was fine already. All I needed was to change the server config by replacing the STARTTLS setup with a pure TLS one. Both setups are depending on the same certificate.

I fully concur with using BlueMail.

IMAP hasn't worked for over a year now.

Outlook keeps on blaming our ISPs yet the ISP'S settings work seamlessly with BlueMail the first time round.

Outlook used to have descent support, at some stage I used to think it was the best in Microsoft, but alas, it is non-existent.

I got the same problem. Outlook for Android don't support some special characters in the password.

For example if your password has a } or a \ it will fail, but a $ is OK.

Credit to Demetri M. who went through the logs of it's server, and pinpointed the problem : Outlook Android App will not setup IMAP email account - Microsoft Community
