Cannot login to Outlook due to error "Something went wrong.."

Original title: Outlook LIVE (outlook.com) "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later".

I have a custom domain running Outlook LIVE through outlook.com.  I've had an old passport account which has been with me for a long time but didn't used to have email associated with it.  I recently updated it to have email enabled, but I'm not able to login to outlook live with that account.

How can I get around the "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later" error, or determine what the problem is?  I waited about a month but I'm still having the same problem.  I would really like to get email onto this account since it's the account I have all of my other things (xbox, phone, win8) pointed to.

Thanks

I have been getting this error message now for about a week.  I am desparate to get this resolved as I know I have a number of urgent emails sitting in my inbox that I need to respond to.  I have a desktop pc, a laptop and phone and cant get to my emails on either. I have tried everything on this thread but still cant get anywhere.  This has to be an outlook problem.  I have also tried changing my password, using IE and chrome but nothing works.  Getting extreemly frustrated now!!!!!
