Cannot login to Outlook due to error "Something went wrong.."

Original title: Outlook LIVE (outlook.com) "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later".

I have a custom domain running Outlook LIVE through outlook.com.  I've had an old passport account which has been with me for a long time but didn't used to have email associated with it.  I recently updated it to have email enabled, but I'm not able to login to outlook live with that account.

How can I get around the "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later" error, or determine what the problem is?  I waited about a month but I'm still having the same problem.  I would really like to get email onto this account since it's the account I have all of my other things (xbox, phone, win8) pointed to.

Thanks

This worked for me -no problems for several months-

Open control panel - click on Internet Options - go to Security tab and click on it.Go to trusted sites.  You will see a box that say SITES- a list of trusted sites will appear - delete any site that refers to email - outlook - email - live - etc. - go to you email. You should be all set. If not try try to login in to Windows Live 2012. Your emails also appear here. Hope this helps

This has been suggested many times in this thread. It does not work - at least for me.

I have NO trusted sites in that list to remove. None at all.

I'm having this same problem but I am using Chrome. Only way to TEMPORARILY fix is by clearing internet settings.

I solved by doing a IE reset (options, advanced, reset settings), at the cost of losing all the customisation, passwords, and so on. Shame that MS was not able to help us on this one over so many years.

... and now it's back. Seems the IE reset was only a temporary solution.
