Hello -

When I attempt to add my outlook.com email account to any iOS device I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information".

I see this problem on my iPhone 4s and iPad and all devices are running iOS5.01 with no additional updates available.

I followed these steps to setup my account

-settings, add new mail account

-selected Hotmail

-entered my outlook.com address (full SMTP address - eg ******@outlook.com) and my password

-after several seconds I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information"

Power cycling the devices doesn't help.  Everything works fine from the web.

Any ideas?

sign in to what account on the web browser?

Just upgraded to iOS8.0.1 and had exactly the problem described. I went into Outlook through a browser, disabled my phone and turned off 2 step security and boom... It worked just like you said. MICROSOFT - you need to fix the bug!!!

Guys - Johayber T nailed it.

The two step login is there for a reason and can be kept.

I had the problem for a while too and I was searching, I did the whole removing the phone number and the two step process and it worked, but then I read on because my Microsoft account had been attempted to hack overseas so I wanted to keep the whole two step process for that security.

I turned the two step security back on - put the phone number back in and then in Account Settings - Security and Passwords I clicked on Created a new App password, because email on an iPhone is an app, but it won't accept the code generated by  the Authenticator

    • you have to use the App Password and it will all be just fine.

Thanks for taking the time to put that up Jahayber T

    KC
